Several identical Android streamers based on quad-core RK3188

I just received one of these, and all I can say is - it's FAST.

I got mine from Amazon.ca:
http://www.amazon.com/Android-Extern...ds=hossen+3188

But there are several identical such mini-PCs going under such names as:

EKB311
Kingnovel K-R42
Jesurun DX-05
MK888
CS918

They are available from such purveyors as Geekbuying and Aliexpress, and there are several on eBay:

The K-R42 incarnation got some glowing reviews on Geekbuying:

But what's interesting is that all of these boxes come from a single assembly plant - Shenzhen Tena Electronics.

(They're called Tena these days, but they started out as Turner Electronics)

In this video tour of the factory, you can get a glimpse of hundreds of these boxes being tested and burnt-in prior to shipment.

After setting up my Hossen box, the first thing I installed from the Google Play Store was the Antutu benchmark. My score: 18222.

Youtube and Netflix were next, and the quality is excellent. Video files on my local USB flash drive and on my home network play well.

Has anybody else here had any experience with these RK3188-based boxes?

Impressive little box, especially for under $100. I'm very tempted to get one of these for use as an HTPC/media player.

I've just ordered the same box . It was $15 more on Amazon.ca but it included free shipping.

I've tried one of the older, dual-core Android boxes and it work pretty well. This one should be a bit better. I do like that this one has a LAN port. I hope the remote is good but I can always get a decent and cheap remote another time.

@Veee: No, the included IR remote is not great. It does have a "Mouse" mode, but it's painfully slow to move around the screen.

I recommend an air/fly mouse - it's the closest thing to a touch-screen on an Android TV.

Oh well. I'll have to get a separate remote then. Yes, those air remotes are good. I tried the RC-11 and was please with it.

I've got a $35 Android TV stick and while is does work, its not really that great as most Android Apps are setup for touchscreen. Now I have a Chromecast I think my Android stick is going to be redundant.

Unfortunately, Chromecast doesn't support Plex or a bunch of other apps I'd want to use right now.

Plus, I find Android boxes easy to control with an air mouse

You can use Plex in Chrome and then cast it to the Chromecast

Why would I want to use Plex in Chrome? That's a PITA. The app is much faster.

It is but it does work with the Chromecast and the app won't be far away once the SDK is released fully

I've been eyeballing these for a while, as a way of adding a plex device on the cheap to a little tv in the RV when we get rained out

I picked up the MK888 before Christmas with an air mouse. It's really fast. I've been using it with XBMC for the most part.
