AppleTV firmware 2.4 released

Apple has updated both AppleTV and its iPod Touch remote app to support a few new search feature and the ability to use your iPod as a touchscreen remote with finger gestures.

My initial tests are very positive. Using the iPod/iPhone as a remote works very nicely.

Dang! Still no fix to allow viewing of HD and HQ Youtube vids. Still only defaults to the low-res versions.

Be careful if you have boxee installed. I think it breaks it.

Yeah that is frustrating. Fixing that should have been a no brainer

I'm not really happy that I have to shell out the additional $10 to get the 3.0 update for my iTouch so I can use the latest Remote functionality, but I guess it has to be done.

If the only reason for getting OS 3 is this then save your money. After trying it out, I really can't see myself using it unless I lose my Apple TV remote.

Losing Apple remote - easily done

My wife threw ours away accidentally after cleaning up after a dinner party.

I plan on getting the update! (Happily iPhone users can update to OS 3 without charge.)

If it breaks boxee can it be reinstalled or is a new version of boxee required.
One of my kids who was on Appletv the other day says they accepted an update. I have not checked to see if boxee is still there or working.
