WinTV in HD is jerky, what other players?

Hi everyone,
I'm setting up a PC for the hockey playoffs so we can watch the early games here at the office in HD. I have a Terk indoor antenna plugged into a Hauppauge 1250 tuner card. All I need it to do is play. So far the signal reception is good, the picture looks great and the sound is good, the problem is that once every 10 seconds the sound and picture stutters, to the point that it's very annoying. So I set off to look for what other players there are, thinking that WinTV may be at fault.
I have tried:
wintv - picture good, sound good but it is jerky
watchhdtv - picture good but can't get sound to work
easyhdtv - picture has venetian blind effect when there is motion

Here are the specs on the PC:
Asus P5Q-VM motherboard (G45 Express chipset which boasts support for 1080p video playback)
Intel E8400 3GHz processor
XP Pro fresh install
2gig ram
Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-1250

Any other recommendations? This hardware should be good enough shouldn't it? All I need it to do is play, no recording.
thanks,
Martin

In the wintv start folder, look for the "Primary" program, and try 'overlay'
If that doesn't work, try all the other options in primary.
I had the same stuttering problems on my old laptop.
Changing the settings made it go away for wintv.
I still liked watchhdtv more, though, so I stopped using wintv

Thanks for the suggestion with WinTV . I tried but no joy in fiddling with those settings in primary.exe.

However, I have installed a beta copy of Windows 7, and watching live TV in the media center looks OK so far.
