A new router would need to be set up. Most have a guided initial setup and some are easier to set up than others. Some TPIAs will provide a pre-configured modem/router. People here could help.
5GHz is blocked more easily by walls and other obstructions than 2.4Ghz but both have limits. If range is an issue, I recommend using a 'Gigabit Powerline Wi-Fi Adapter Kit' such as the TP-Link TL-WPA8630 KIT AV1300/AC1350.
