@jbracing24 - commandN has nothing to do with Leo. It was started by Amber Mac, her brother Jeff, Mike Lazazzera (who used to be on Call For Help) and myself. Leo has appeared on a few ep's but that is it.

I still think that Television just is not the best media source for this type of content. As a previous poster said, most technophiles will get the info they need from the net.

Although this show wasn't that much different from Call for Help, for me it definitely was not as good. I too found that I fast forwarded through a lot of the show, probably watching the entire episode in 10 to 15 minutes. I almost never fast forwarded through Call for Help.

Maybe they'll keep rerunning it like "Call for Help", but "Lab with Leo" is a huge part of G4techtv's programming. They run it six times a day.

I doubt they'll do that for long with reruns. Much of the show is out of date within a few months. If they do, it will be a pathetic channel.

Rogers is buying these days, not selling like CTVglobemedia.

Great Show sucks to see it go, there are so many worst shows than it on the air that should be cancelled instead :/

It was the only reason I kept G4techtv. So I guess that will change.

I won't really miss it. I find Leo has become a lot like Bob Vila was on this Old house, always trying to show how much he knew, interrupting the guest constantly, and not letting them finish what they were talking about.

I can see how that would be a put off for some. However, having been in the IT industry for nearly 15 years, I can say that there are certainly times when the caller (USER) needs to be cut off as everything they are about to say can be easily predicted. And where Leo has been in the industry way longer than I, it only makes sense that he is even more attuned to these things.

For instance, last year on his radio show, someone called in convinced they had a Firewire 800 device and was connecting it to a Firewire 400 camera. Anyone who knows firewire also knows that the connectors are quite different and that you need an adapter cable to go between 400 and 800. He had to cut the caller off because he would not leave it alone.

As for Bob, he can probably hammer better than I can but he is far more a TV personality and Sears spokesman than he ever was a carpenter/contractor. His formal education is actually in journalism.

I should say that the only thing about Leo that bugs me is his predisposition to ALWAYS offer up the Mac as the "end-all, be-all" solution to all things home computing.

That always bugged me as well. They are very good machines, but the reality is that Macs comprise approx. 5% of the computer world, and CFH probably took up about 25% of the Computer segments with Mac stuff.

With Rogers moving City and Omni to Yonge-Dundas Square, perhaps G4TechTV will also move, and a new technology show will be produced in-house.

virtually everyone in the media end of things uses Macs, and that's who Leo's around. A lot of what makes for good TV is stuff that's on the Mac anyway. Watching Mr Excel show spreadsheet magic is a snooze compared to the pretty Mac apps.

Question Last episode Number?

Anyone know what the highest episode number is? I think they've aired up to 164 now but it appears that they filmed that just before Christmas. So I'm wondering how many new ones they might have in the can from Jan/Feb (if any) before we hit permanent reruns.

THANKS for all the fish!

Thu, 02/07/2008 - 12:55 — Ryan

Hi all,

As the producers of The Lab with Leo Laporte, we are blogging to let you know that, effective now, production has ceased on the show.

However, all the episodes that have been produced thus far will air on G4TechTV Canada. Episodes up to, and including, number 180 will air as scheduled, air dates for episodes 181 to 195 will be confirmed shortly.

We, along with the whole Greedy Productions team, would like to thank you for your involvement with the show over the past year. We all recognize that we could not have produced 195 hours of live-to-tape TV without your help. You helped make the Lab with Leo a show of which we can all be proud!

Again, we thank you for being such good friends of the show, and I wish you all the best.

Sincerely,
The Lab Team

From Leo's blog:

"Rogers is planning to replace it with a daily, live show", so maybe Tech TV will still be relevant. The new show won't have Leo's personality or contacts, but I'll give it a chance. Maybe they'll hire Amber MacArthur or Andy Walker if they want some name recognition.

I doubt very much that we'll see Amber go back to Rogers. She left Rogers to go to CITY and then left CITY to go independent. She's too much a free-spirit to be tied down to a daily show like that. Andy Walker and Sean Carruthers are probably better suited to hosting a live call-in show thanks to their experiences on Call for Help, the Lab and their own LabRats podcast.
