hindered by about 20 audio drops
I have been updating my "Visions Of..." series from PBS with better quality copies as shown on HDNet. Tonight they start Visions of New York City, which I've never seen. No pledge breaks to edit or annoying phone number banners either.

The quality I am getting from HDNet Shaw Direct channel 275 is not recordable as HD but as 480 and the widescreen effect is, as is some of the extra detail. I usually get about 1 audio/video glitch during the 55 minute episode, so I have resorted to recording the showing at 1am, which appears a lot cleaner.

Do audio dropouts/signal loss problems tend to occur more frequently if the number of viewers increases on a certain channel? What do you mean you recorded it in 480, I thought HDnet was 24/7 HD programming. Next time I catch a flick I will record/watch the second showing.

In am recording it to an XP Media Center PC from a Shaw Direct 505 receiver via composite connections and archiving to DVD-R...thats about 480...right?

I viewed the 10pm showing of Visions of New York City and it had two major dropouts about 45 minutes into the program. Since this episode will be shown about six times in the next 24 hrs, I'll keep recording and keep the best one, usually the ones shown during the late night. It wasn't one of the better ones of the series but I'll keep a copy anyway.

Does HDNet now have commercial breaks in their movies? When I watched The Natural, there were one or two commercial breaks to advertise HDNet programming. If I hadn't been enjoying the movie so much, I probably would have stopped watching! I always make a point to record and watch HDNet movies, but I might stop this practice if they have commercial breaks.

The Natural is the last HDNet movie I watched, even though it was aired about a month ago or so. Have any more recent airings of HDNet movies have commercial breaks?

cheers,

They do have commercials but not nearly as many as network TV. I think there were maybe three or four commercials in a two-hour long movie, not a big deal and they weren't really long breaks. HDNet is one of the few places you can consistently find OAR films so I will keep watching regaurdless.

I agree with rileyparrish. I'll put up with a couple of commercials for OAR and HD.

I always PVR the HDNET movies anyway so I can watch them at my leisure.
