Showcase HD and National Geographic HD

There hasn't really been much discussion of this here, even though the scheduled launch date is supposed to be December 19th (tomorrow). Does anyone know if this is going through, whether Rogers is picking it up, and how it will be priced (part of the HD Specialty Pack)?

I'm looking forward to NG HD at least. Just speculating here but I would image they would fall into the $5.95 per month HD package that you don't get for free but there will likely be a length "free preview" period as they have done with other similar new channels.

I noticed 2 test channels in the 900 range listed as TSHDS and TSHDN, which I suspect are National Geographic HD and Showcase HD, so I bet they will launch tomorrow or this week.

I'm still on SD, and the channel I watch more than any other is Showcase. It's one of the reasons I've held off on going hi def for so long. This is great news. I'm going to start doing research on which HDTV to buy sometime early in the new year!

Rogers darn well better carry it, otherwise I'll be calling them daily to complain about it!

cheers,
supervij

I see HDNAT and HDSHO now in the IPG with no listings as of yet, so they are up.

They are up on Rogers showing the same SD stuff as the SD channels in SD. WGNHD is still showing the Rogers HD demo channel.

There was a program on National Geographic HD earlier this morning that was in HD, or at least widescreen (Mad Labs).

I had a quick peek this morning, too. Thankfully, both new channels are proper aspect ratio (ie. 4:3 content is shown 4:3). Now that A&E has also switched to 4:3 for 4:3 content we've suddenly got three decent watchable mainstream channels.

Assuming they have the broadcast masters available, Showcase has some pretty decent "edgy" programming on series and movies.

And let's face it: National Geographic has lots of quality programming. as they ramp up and deliver more in HD there ought to be some great choices in nature and science documentaries.

Best of all: no extra charge (yet). That's a pretty decent stocking stuffer!

I went to both the Showcase and NationalGeographic Canadian websites and found nothing relating to an HD schedule. Is there such a thing?????

The following shows will be in HD on Showcase

Andromeda [Weekdays at 6am, noon, 7pm]
CSI [Monday – Thursday 11pm, 2am, 5am – Sunday 1am]
CSI: Miami [Monday – Thursday 12am, 3am – Saturday 10pm, 5am – Sunday 5pm]
G-Spot [Friday 10pm, 4am]
Huff (beginning February 25) [Sunday 10pm, 12am, 3am]
Kenny vs. Spenny [Thursday 9:30pm, Saturday 9pm]
Kink [Friday 9:30pm]
Lovespring International (beginning January 8) [Monday at 10pm, 1am, 4am]
L-Word [Thursday 10pm, 1am, 4am]
Regenesis [Monday at 9pm]
Rent–A–Goalie [Tuesday 9:30pm – Saturday 9:30pm - Sunday 9:30pm, 11:30pm, 2:30am]
Rescue Me [Tuesday 10pm, 1am, 4am]
Slings and Arrows [Sunday 8pm, 4am]
Weeds [Wednesday 10pm, 1am, 4am]

I think Showcase will also have The Sopranos in Spring of 2007, not sure if it will be the edited version that A&E HD will have come January. I'd imagin some of their movies will also be shown in HD.

It's not much of a schedule, but it lists the HD shows.

Thats all I need thanks. BTW, there is a WS show on NGHD as we speak. Its letterboxed on the SD channel. I wouldn't call it HD quality though.
