"BBC Planet Earth" on CBC (1 in WS, 2-6 in HD & DD5.1) Returning June, 2007

Link to CBC...
I just posted in the CBC thread, but thought that this amazing series deserved a thread of its own.

I've already seen the original BBC airings for Planet Earth with widescreen, but SD resolution, and I have to say that it's a STUNNING series (even in SD, so I'm really looking forward to seeing it in HD!).

The photography has to be some of the best I've seen in a nature program (and the BBC is well known for it's nature shows). In the first episode, they use a camera which has an incredible zoom lens to be able to zoom in on the subject from 1km away, allowing for some visually detailed chase sequences.

Everyone that has an HDTV must watch the show. Heck, invite your non-HDTV owning friends round so they can watch it too! Set your PVR's now and make sure you have enough space for this as I believe this to be an amazing showcase for HDTV.

Astonishing documentary series shows you 'places barely touched by humanity'

Most nature specials are pretty to look at, but also pretty boring.

However, the BBC series Planet Earth, which debuts tonight on CBC at 7, is not dull. In fact, it's quite spectacular in its lack of dullness.

Four other episodes -- titled "Mountains," "Fresh Water," "Caves" and "Deserts" -- have been completed and will be shown on CBC sequentially on Sunday evenings. The final six episodes in the 11-hour series are set for a first run on BBC this fall, and they likely will be picked up by CBC at a later date.

Thanks for the heads-up. There are always so many interesting shows that I would miss had it not been for fellow DHCers.

Ordinarily he was insane, but he had lucid moments when he was merely stupid.

Thumbs down

Wow...I'm sorry, but if that's what passes for HD in the UK, then they don't know what they're missing.
It's not crisp at all. Golf looked 100% better.

I'm very disappointed.

BTW, It's only listed as WS on CBC's sked for this week. That's about all it looks like.

Maybe it's just CBC then. It does not look like HD. I've seen enough SD on PBS to know the difference.

I'm very disappointed.
Would you agree that the Africa segment was superior PQ as compared to the Antarctic and Arctic segments?
