Watched the first episode on Space last night . Very confusing show (except for the nice shot of Deep Cove BC ) If i hadn't known the premise of the show i would have been even more lost . Not a show that grabs one from the get go .
Anyone else watch ?
It's apparently based on a novel by Michael Marshall Smith .The Streiber book is about alien abductions i think and this about a secret group seeking immortality by i guess body hopping but who knows ? The writers don't seem to .
In keeping with Chris Carter's previous series, this one will offer no easy answers. That's great with us. If you like everything all tied up with a bow in one hour, move on. If you can handle multi-season story arcs and just plain mind-stumping dead ends, like in The X-Files, this will be a good one.
We also were enjoying the Vancouver-is-again-supposed-to-be-Seattle location shots. This is probably the umpteenth series over the years to do that. New Westminster was used for some of the shots too.
John SImm is a tremendous actor (original UK Life On Mars, 24 Hour Party People, etc. etc.) and it was a bit odd to hear him speaking with an American accent but he did fine. Too bad they didn't just somehow let him use his own British accent. He plays a former L.A. cop who left under a cloud, but that could have easily applied to a former MI-5 or Met officer. Again, too bad.
Lack of CGI gimmickry and eye candy was appreciated. Lack of infantile exposition was also appreciated. They just threw us all in. Right on. All in all, we are looking forward to watching this grow.
We watched the first episode last night, and agreed that it has potential.
I would not be surprised if it does NOT do well on US TV. It is too mysterious, no idea what is really going on, and very confusing. Stuff that sit-at-home yanks with an expectation of being entertained at an infantile level just won't buy into......
There's a thin line between mysterious and inviting and straight out confusing . This show seemed to be the latter . I also enjoyed Simm in Life on mars . a good actor does not necessarily mean all the shows they are on are good . i will keep watching to see if it improves . There's also a thin line between cult classic and dreck .
After reading your post(4), I will wacth this episode.Totally forgot about it. I hate those shows where every episode, everything gets solved then the series has 20 something episodes and starts bringing back people that were supposedly dead. That faked their deaths because the CIA was after them. They run out of ideas so fast that they have to make stuff up just to make more episodes.
