Masters of Sex

Anybody else watching this series ? The writing is great and the acting phenomenal from the two main leads Michael Sheen and Lizzy Caplan to the entire supporting cast . Well worth a look if you have the chance .

We've been watching it and it is good, but it seems that it's starting to drag a bit. I'm not sure it needs quite this many episodes. We also saw several previous documentaries, biographies.

I've been enjoying the show as well. Lizzy Caplan is awesome. Great to see that it's been renewed for another season.

Much like with Under The Dome, I will likely tune out soon and catch the last couple of episodes if they're going to make this 24. My wife and I were watching the first episode and she thought it was going to be a movie (i.e. a couple of hours). When the hour was over she said, there's not enough here for a series (much less 24 episodes)... More is not always better, in fact, it often means dilution of material.

My PVR always has material on it to watch, so perhaps I'll record it and watch if I ever run out of material. I'm just disappointed that whenever theres "a good thing" on TV, it has to be stretched/renewed.

I agree that quite often shows have no sense of when their due date has passed . Shows like Revenge or the Mentalist with red john or countless others that would be fine for a limited run but get stretched forever or at least until syndication is reached .
I don't believe that for me this series has reached that point (it's only been 4 episodes) .Human sexuality and the North American prudeness towards it and the awakening in the 60s probably could go on in a series for a long long time .

Yes, but it was originally intended to be 12 episodes, period, similar to Under The Dome. As soon as viewership was determined to be high, they decided to milk the series for another year. I wonder if they'll milk it for 3 years if season 2 is popular?

I never read that it was meant to only be a one time series .Do you have a source for that? Networks will rarely say that it's a one time thing only and will of course wait to see how it does and if they will/can renew .

Just a quick reminder that season 2 (Masters of Sex and Ray Donovan) starts this Sunday on TMN, per post 11.

I loved the first season, but for some reason, I'm finding this season to be really awkward in comparison. Almost as if they're going out of their way to be awkward in the direction of the characters. Some characters like Virginia seem to be acting differently than they would have in the first season.

I enjoy the series, it's very similar to Mad Men, exploring the changes in societal attitudes during this period. I have NEVER seen that it was supposed to be a one year series, like any premium cable show they shoot a year and if it reaches a good audience it's renewed, same thing for Mad Men, The Wire, Sopranos etc.

There is a LOT of issues that can be mined that haven't been touched on yet, like Mad Men it will be done slowly and realistically. There is a LOT of humour in this series much like Mad Men, but it's subtle which a lot of folks just don't get.

Under the Dome is a summer series on NETWORK TV that caught on and was renewed. I don't watch Stephen King schlocky Sci-Fi so I can't tell whether the series is being stretched or not.
