Sorry Hugh, I wasn't trying to get off topic, just making comparisons between two different governments, municipal and federal that don't seem to be media friendly.

I am willing to bet that the 911 tapes aren't going to be too flattering to Mr. Ford and sealing them is the Chiefs way of making sure they don't get mysteriously leaked to the press.

Well I guess the opposite has been proven true by the OPP. It's going to be interesting to hear CBC's response to this but I guess they wish it all gets swept under the table. Doesn't give CBC's ombudsman much credibility now either.

(Not sure how to provide link to yesterdays various newspaper articles regarding the OPP announcement backing Blair's assertion that Ford didn't act inappropriately)

How has the opposite been proven true.

The opposite would be that the tapes are flattering to Mr. Ford. Given that Ford himself apologized for swearing and acting inappropriately to the 911 operators, then how does the OPP comment make the opposite true. All the OPP did was was confirm the accuracy of Blair's October 28, 2011 statement. All Blair said in that statement is that Ford didn't use the word bitches, and didn't call himself Rob effing Ford. Blair didn't comment whether Ford swore at operators, or acted inappropriately.

While it seems clear that the exact words that Ford used were not quite as remembered correctly by those in the police department who reported the comments to CBC, it seems quite clear that Ford's comments were still inappropriate, and the tapes would not be flattering to Ford. How one concludes the opposite is true after Ford himself admitted to the use of inappropriate language, is beyond me.

Rather than sweeping it under the table, the CBC does seem to be reporting it clearly, prominently, and neutrally. That's why the CBC has such a good reputation - unlike the Toronto Sun, whose journalistic integrity is so poor they were forced to withdraw from the Ontario Press Council so that they could continue the type of faux news that the have fallen to in recent years.

The Star made statements against Ford that has been proven fallacious. This has been confirmed by two police forces that reviewed the tapes. Therefore the CBC report was wrong. As well, the CBC Ombudsman claimed Blair couldn't be believed as he had a "vested interest" while of course the CBC wouldn't have a "vested interest" in their own reporters' action.

What statements did the Star make?

The CBC report was that sources within the police department told them what Ford said. Nothing from either the police or the OPP change what the CBC's sources told them. CBC didn't report Ford said X, they said that sources told them that Ford said X. The report remains accurate. The question is why are members of the police department misleading the CBC.

And we are splitting hairs. TPS and OPP merely said that Ford didn't say "bitches". Even Ford has confirmed he used the word "****" and spoke inappropriately to city employees. He apologized - clearly he know he was in the wrong.

The police have made it quite clear they can release the 911 tape if Ford tells them to do it. Clearly the tape puts Ford in a very bad light. While the police sources didn't seem to be 100% accurate, they certainly were partly correct, that Ford did verbally abuse the police operators.

Maybe those who are so quick to attack the CBC should encourage the mayor to just release the transcript of the original tape. Surely all would be clarified and then Toronto residents could then reach their own reasonable conclusions as to what he actually said. As long as the mayor refuses to authorize the release of the tape there will remain the suspicion that he has something to hide.

Agreed, why is Ford still blocking the release?

No matter what's on the tapes, what isn't debatable is HE CALLED 9-1-1

That fact alone says the most.

Well, his public apology for using the "f-word" and "expressing my frustration inappropriately" during the 9-1-1 calls says a lot too ...

Even Ford admits his actions were inappropriate. The only debate is which nasty words he used, and in what sequence.
