The real headline should be "CRTC orders $421.9 million confiscated from consumers".

^I agree.

Nice of the CRTC to put the telcos on the front line for collecting their fees. That way the consumers complain to the telcos instead of to the CRTC (Communist Radio and Television Commission).

I wish the rural folks luck on getting DSL service in this lifetime. I live in a mature neighbourhood built about 25 years ago and I can't get DSL to my home. Yet less than 500 ft down the street in a section built in the 60s they can get DSL. Yeah, yeah, I know about the limitations and everything with respect to DSL. That money is just going to sit in whatever investment they have it in racking in the interest.

cdn_tbird, I agree with you... As I said in my own comment I question de viability of DSL in rural areas... Maybe the CRTC should have listened to Bell on this one and let them deploy HSPA.

Bell rebate

Got my Bell $67 rebate cheque yesterday! Almost threw it away as I am so used to getting junk mail from them!

Cheers,

A little shameless that they include a plug for their other services ... the way the paper is folded it (check on the bottom folded inside) makes it look more like junk mail than a refund check. It will probably result in a lot of people throwing it out by accident.

At first I thought, more junk mail. Then I read the front of the envelope where it said "Important account information" and instantly thought, oh great, they are raising the fees! Then I opened it and saw the cheque!

Not that I'm complaining about the rebate ...

Cheers,

jayson

BTW, thanks to whomever moved this to the correct threat.

@Darkman00, the rebate is only for landline customers in urban areas as of August 31, 2010. It isn't pro-rated in any way. The telcos argued it was too difficult to figure out who was a customer between 2002-2006 and for how long and if they had moved, etc. The CRTC agreed to a single cut-off date.

MTS just deducted my rebate from my bill - no extra paper cheques required.

We don't get the rebate since we switched carriers before the 2010 date. OTOH, We've saved well over $100 in phone costs since switching.

At 20 I had a good mind. At 40 I had money. At 60 I've lost my mind and my money. Oh, to be 20 again. --Scary

Thanks Dave.
It's not me then.. - cuz the entire 2010 i was with Primus for the Landline Phone

What does "urban areas" mean by the way?

the folks living in the city, more likely, or something like that?
cuz "suburban" i think means - outside the city... - Correct?
