This is news? you have to be kidding me. NO BODY i know uses facebook messenger the app even though facebook shoved it in everyone's face by disabling the ability to send and receive messages thru the main app. Most people I know open m.facebook.com in a browser on their phone and enable desktop mode just so they can send and read their messages thu the web based without having to install another app on their phone. its true, and for a while most people were not reading messages cus they refused to install the face book messenger application.

Like most Senior Citizens, my mother did not even know how to send or receive messages on her face book, the feature has been missing from the core app for a few years and replaced by a separate app now and most seniors do not want to add a new app to check messages they don't even know they have.
