This is probably the only station that you receive which is 480i SD, correct?

Try setting your TV to "normal" and not "auto".

EPG (PSIP) Update CHCH Hamilton

My sources at CHCH Hamilton tell me that they are close to offering programming guide data OTA via PSIP soon. I'll hopefully get a time frame tomorrow.

However, for reasons that weren't disclosed, CJNT Montréal (CHCH sister station) will not have guide data anytime soon. I'll try to get more details on this.

Hi,

Can anyone tell me what resolution that CIIT-DT Winnipeg (JoyTV11) is broadcasting in? Does it currently offer an HD signal?

Thanks Jase88. I've spoken to the operations manager at CHCH a few times and seems like he's a nice guy and is interested in serving OTAers.

That's great news that CHCH is getting close on offering programming guide data via PSIP soon.

Is there any news/has anyone heard if CHCH is getting close to a negotiated deal with Bell Satellite or Shaw Satellite for a CHCH HD feed to upgrade CHCH-DT-2 London and CHCH-DT-1 Ottawa OTA digital channels to HD (1080i)?

Both CHCH-DT-1 and CHCH-DT-2 were converted to OTA DTV on August 31, but only at 480i. I know it wasn't a requirement by the CRTC to upgrade to HD, but it would be great if CHCH would broadcast at 1080i.

CHCH signal popping up in midtown Toronto

Haven't had a single whiff of CHCH on my indoor Terk since they moved to VHF 11.

Was doing a scan with my HDHomerun this morning and, lo and behold, I saw it's call letters for the very first time since they switched.

Not a signal I could load into MythTV though, just:

Signal Strength: 89%
Signal Quality:38%
Symbol Quality: 0%

Was just able to view the broadcast for a few seconds without it breaking up.

Have they changed anything lately? Strength? I mean if I can get a whiff of it with my crazy setup, perhaps I should try building a better antenna. Seeing as a) I hate Sun News and b) we're losing Sun News on OTA anyway, I'd love to have CH's news back.

AFAIK, CHCH has not made any changes. With the seasonal change and decrease in foliage, it's possible that the signal is propagating slightly better to your location.

Is your TERk the HDTVa model? If it is you will have to tinker with the two VHF dipole arms to catch the signal.

Yes it is the hdtva model. Any suggestions on the length of the dipoles for ch?

Unhappy Sun TV

CKXT ch 19-1 here in London, Ontario is kaput as of 6 am this morning. Might of gone off at midnight while I was fast asleep. Can't say I'll miss it except that it drops me from 10 digital channels to 9. Looks like the forecast for an October 31 shutdown was correct.

Sun TV

I just wish CH could get their Hamilton UHF transmitter. Won't miss SUN one iota but would love to be able to receive CH in midtown Toronto.

dheian, even if CHCH could get the RF 15 allotment, it is too weak to reach Toronto. I never was able to pick up CKXT on RF 15. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I believe the Hamilton 15 must be low power to not conflict with the Buffalo 15 allotment. (why there are 2 channel 15s so close together is another story )

AFAIK, channel 15 in Buffalo is LPTV, and thus not subject to protection.

El Gran Chico, I had absolutely no problem getting SunTV with my wacky setup in midtown Toronto, so, yeah, I'd love it if CH was there. Update: Wait...I was getting my info from Wikipedia...I'm guessing they were actually transmitting from the CN Tower as well?
