Also keep in mind that the deciduous trees are in full bloom now and full of moisture, so in a few weeks as the leaves fill out and the flowering trees lose those blossoms things should stabilize again.

Come August 31st CBUT-DT will be moving to Ch 43 and significantly boosting its ERP. Ch 43 is about 90Mhz lower on the band which will probably help for your antenna.

What the heck? Game's about to start on CBC and it went out a couple times already.

I noticed that the signal was basically flipping on and off for me. (i.e. 0% signal, 70% signal.) No macroblocking, just a signal was present and not present. It now stabilized for the last few minutes anyway...

All other channels are fine, even citytv, which is a lot weaker than CBC.

I hope they aren't having problems with their transmitter. Sigh.

CHAN-DT Boosted to Post Transition Power?

I know that the PSAs for Global mentioned that the service area would be broadened (increased to Post transition allotment power) for Global (RF 22, Virtual 8.1) by end of June for the Vancouver area. Being in a deep fringe area myself, I indeed have noticed over the past couple days that my reception has rocketed. Anyone else notice this?

Local Vancouver Channels

In the Vancouver area, CIVI UHF 17 is not broadcasting in digital yet, nor is CBUFT 26, CBC French.

CHEK is more financially constrained, so it might be more difficult for them to meet the Aug 31st deadline. I'm sure they could get some used broadcasting equipment from the US for a good deal.

Fickle tv tuners...

I should have said that one tv tuner just discovered 33.1...the other tuner put 32 at 33.1 some time ago, but never found 32.1???? and still doesn't.

JOY TV

One other channel going digital Sept 1 is Joy TV. It tends
to be heavily religious programming, but does have some
retro programs during prime time. Here's the announcement:

http://www.joytv10.ca/crtc_information.php

My take is that once there are about 14-15 stations available
in the Bellingham, Victoria, Lower Mainland region in digital
format, someone is going to make the realization there is
a potentially strong niche market OTA - perhaps for something
broadcasting to smartphones or tablets which will likely
soon come with built-in ATSC tuners. Or
some of the Seattle stations may put in TV translators
into this market - such as the recent move by PBS KTBC,
with subchannels. At some point, having 20-40 digital
channels makes things very competitive with BUD's, especially
as niche TV shows and movies are increasingly available over the Internet
on demand, from services such as HULU or Netflix. Or possibly
some of the local Universities will mount student-operated
TV programs - many have multimedia programs producing content
now.

RE: Local Vancouver Channels

Archerotor,
Yes, I suspect the cost of going digital is the issue for CHEK. Cost may also be an issue for CIVI and CBUFT. I still think that any station planning to meet the September 1st CRTC "deadline" would most likely already be broadcasting in digital by this time.

Nukdoc,
Regarding the number of free HDTV channels in the Lower Mainland, it's interesting to see that in the UK where there are only four free HDTV channels, theere is an industry group dedicated to promoting FreeView HD.
