CITY Lethbridge (physical 46) is now virtual 2.1 (the original channel) rather than 5.1.

Don't know if this is a mistake.

The CITY-1 Lethbridge transmitter gets its feed from Calgary through a series of microwave hops. From the Harvard site in Calgary, the signal is shot out to a hill in Nanton, then near Nobleford and then the transmitter in West Lethbridge.

It wouldn't surprise me that it's taken some time to install a separate generator to make Lethbridge 2.1. I would assume the same data being fed to the City Calgary transmitter was the same data being fed into the Lethbridge transmitter for some time now.

CITY-1 originally came up as 2.1, then later became 5.1. Don't know when they went back to 2.1.

Right now there is a horrid leading ghost.

Last night around 6 pm none of the remote car openers for the two cars at our house worked. I live on top of Coach Hill in between the transmitters, but not very close to the CBC one. I have only experienced that at the Safeway parking on 85 street, which is very close to the CBC mast, and only back in the analog days. Never at home. Later in the night everything was back to normal - both remotes worked. Does anyone know if CBC were doing tests with indecent amounts of power? Or was it the extraterrestrials?

It's been a few days since you posed your question … does this mean aliens?
On a serious note … a previous message stated no work was being done till after Stampede.

Here in Calgary, my wife noticed that her favourite French radio station (89.7 FM) was not transmitting, starting about 4:30 am today. Also another French FM station 103.9 CBC/SRC, checked at 6:45 am was dead.

So checked OTA CBC TV (English) ch 9.1, and no signal. However, back on the air by 6:55 am.

Anything to do with revisions to CBC tower and increase in power ? I'm about 2_1/2 miles line-of-sight, so if I had a pair of binoculars I could report on up-mast work

Yup, apparently no big news on the CBC transmitter yet. Just an alien spaceship jamming the remote control frequency.

Perhaps the Vogons are surveying for the hyperspace bypass?

I don't exactly prefer CBC's programming to Vogons' poetry, but certain aspects of the Vogons' road building practices make me hope it was actually a test of the CBC transmitter.

CBC CBRT-DT New Antenna and Helical Feeder Intallation

Yes - I believe that the new antenna and feeder work is supposed to begin very shortly!

As for the transmitter itself, I think that it is installed and probably under test into a dummy load.

But time to keep one's eyes peeled! The old channel 9 antenna will have to be removed.

It could be an event to watch at over 800 feet up! That animal cannot be light or small!

Bill -- here is the top of the CBC tower as of a few hours ago.

Sorry it's blurred -- should'a used a tripod. Taken from 85th street just south of Old Banff Coach Road. My home is about 2.4 miles-line-of-sight; just hope the extra power won't mess with the reception on my Stealth Hawk.

CBRT-DT New Antenna and Feeder Installation!

Thanks for the picture of the Channel 9 antenna. It looks as though not much has happened up there as yet. It may be that preparations are still taking place to begin - anyhow, it will be interesting I think to stay peeled on this site. Thanks again as I am presently not in town!

CITY in Lethbridge has reverted from 2.1 back again to 5.1 and seems to have fixed the feed problems causing double-letterboxing and ghosting.

BillSmith -- here's an update photo, taken almost 2 hours ago, 11:30am, 5 aug 2013.

Notice the two men (arrows). I did not even see them when I was taking the pics from about 1000 feet away. Was not until I downloaded to my computer that they became evident. I did notice some action as well on the ground; there were other guys working around a long white cylinder laying on the ground. Should'a walked across the field to talk to them
