Well, one could calculate a comparative value -- the dB difference between the two. But to do it very accurately requires knowing the antenna radiation pattern differences, too.
Don't forget that TVFool doesn't use Canadian antenna pattern data in the first place, so it over-estimates propagation in any other than the maximum ERP direction.

I wish there was a way that we could use the TVFool algorithm to calculate our expected NM (other than just comparing the two Watt figures above)
In the background, I'm trying out some tools and data that may allow me to do Longley-Rice analysis on Canadian stations.

Never mind now -- TVFool now uses Canadian Data, and is quite useful now!

I saw an announcement on CITY TV last night for their application for a digital tranmitter in Ottawa and requesting feedback. There wasn't any new information, but I am sure some people would wonder what it is all about.

ABC 50.1 TX'ing 4:3 instead of 16:9 this morning

Anyone notice GMA this morning? Is that just the station problem or was I imagining it. Yes, I do go to work, just a little later than most!!

Gatineau DTV

Anybody have any information as to when the Gatineau stations (CFGS, CHOT) will go digital OTA?

As I recall, I believe RNC Media told the CRTC they would flash cut CHOT and CFGS in August 2011 or thereabouts. The post-transition plan has channels 30 (T-Q), 34(V), and 40(TVA) all staying on the same channels for digital post-transition.

I've experienced the same with CBC as well as Sun TV. I just assumed it was due to the weather getting colder.

Sound stutters on CBC Ottawa?

I appologize if this is the wrong forum but my question is:

Why would the sound from CBC 4.1 Ottawa have a regular breakup, almost like a stutter? The picture remains good. I don't notice this sound problem on the other 5 or so digital channels I have access to.

Is it tv tuner related? Possible antenna damage? Something in the way that CBC sets up their transmissions?

Thanks in advance,

Tom

CBC "4.1" (UHF 25) Ottawa broadcasts with 5.1 surround sound.
Most other digitals around here don't. That's one difference.

So perhaps your playback gear doesn't handle 6-channel audio?

Cheers

Re: Sound stutters on CBC Ottawa

Trumper,

I get the same audio breakup. I notice it mainly on CBC4-HD but I have also noted it from time to time on other channels.

Here is a question for you. Do you notice this stutter when the picture is mostly text? I notice it when titles scroll after a show and the screen is mainly black with white text.

Could this be a broadcast issue? Or is it a tuner problem?

It happens all the time on this channel. All programs, any time of day. Not text related.

I have a 2yr old Sharp Aquos LCD set. Don't have a surround sound receiver so my antenna is direct into the TV.

If I could keep the picture from 4.1 and get the audio from 4, all would be good.....

Watertown Crystal Clear on All Fronts

Last night 7.1, 7.2, & 28.1 were working beautifully. The real test is this weekend. Have they bumped up their TX power recently? Its been over 3 weeks since I've caught any of the "7's" let alone 28.1.

Go into the menus on that Sharp Aquos LCD TV, and see if you can select an alternate "audio track". And/or find/tweak any other audio related settings you can find in there.

Cheers
