Recording 'streams' from Apple TV 4

I will be cutting the cord in the new year.

What I will be giving up is a PVR. How can I replace it?

I have an available I gig FW HDD. Apple TV will be hard-wired to iMac [?]

Please allow your imaginations to run wild [keeping in mind, money is extremely limited, says his wife!!]

Thanks.

Why would you need a PVR with an AppleTV4? With streaming you can watch what you want, when you want.

I bought a very cheap Win 7 PC and set it up as my Media Server running Plex. It works very well indeed and I can also share content with Family across the world. All is free unless you want to view content on Mobile devices I believe.

The IPTV service for Live TV I use comes with a recording option, although I've never tried it. This is for Android, but I'm sure the option / setup on Apple TV would be similar.

I was just saying that to my wife!

I want to go through the process of discovery anyway. Perhaps for a little project.

Thanks.

I do this now with my Mac. D/L movies then playback to Apple TV, but to record streams is the issue.

Thanks.

What service is that? What is LIVETV? I could search for it but indulge me, please.

I will research GSE. How to access the Apple TV is a problem, no?

Can one spit an HDMI signal? Plug it into asplitter and use a FW output??

Are you not using a TV? Just connecting the ATV to the iMac?

I would have thought ATV at the TV, connected via HDMI, WiFi or hardwired to the iMac.

Yes you can split an HDMI output.

Yes, I have a TV. ATV is just one source, right now, of many, which I choose from my receiver.

The ATV is fed from my computer, via my router by an Ethernet cable my own files [movies, photos or music via iTunes] or I use an ATV app such as Netflix accessing from the Internet directly.

I hope that clears it up for you.

Live TV service via IPTV... streaming live channels from all over the planet, including tons of American stations not found here, as well as the common ones. The quality is great too... doesn't even look like a stream.
