Netflix User Interface Changed (Apple TV 4K)

Noticed a sidebar menu late tonight. Not sure what to think. I liked the old UI.
Unrelated and confusing, the Apple TV App is suggesting hockey games on TSN and a few French and CITY tv series. Interesting.

See Netflix's overhauled Apple TV interface brings handy shortcuts to a sidebar menu

Hopefully it'll update on my 2012 Samsung Smart TV. We've had the same interfere for 5+ years now and it doesn't even allow you the option to change profiles.

^It probably won't. There's no incentive for manufacturers to support their Smart TV platforms for more than a couple of years. It's the same thing with apps like YouTube - eventually there won't be any more updates and it will simply cease to work.

That's why it's always better to get a separate media box (Roku, Apple TV, nVidia Shield, etc). Cheaper than a new TV, and they also tend to get updates for longer.

On some smart TVs, the Netflix interface is basically just an HTML5 web app that Netflix controls. In those cases, Netflix can make changes themselves for many TVs/platforms at once, without having to spend resources on a thousand different apps for 250 end users each.

If it's a proprietary app on the TV, then it's pretty well hopeless.
