BBC iPlayer app and Video service now available in Canada

The global BBC iPlayer App, a unique video on demand (VOD) pilot subscription service available on the iPad, is now available in Canada.

$8.99 a month or $85 a year. Seems reasonable if you're a big BBC fan.

If the news item in the Financial Post is to be believed there is no current plan to make this available on a regular PC. Which to me (who would gladly pay the UK license fee for the BBC's output) makes it totally useless. Unless there is a way to run an IPad app on a Windows PC?

No you can't run iPad apps on a PC but you can use Airplay and ATV to put it onto a TV.

I watch BBC TV with the free FilmON Plus app (using wifi) for my iPhone.

Use a VPN service and connect to a UK server without any cost except the VPN service.

But Iplayer in the UK or across a VPN IS BBC TV or most of it anyway.

My gripe is that the content is only available on Ipad...with perhaps an Android version to come. As it does need a subscription so they have all the "paywall" collection of payment and so on done then why not make it available to stream to a PC as well for the >95% of people who don't have an Ipad.

Coincidence?

As a past subscriber of BBC World I have always liked the show "Click" (alias Click on Line). From time-to-time I have viewed segments offered on the click pages of bbc.co.uk on my PC without a problem.
This week the video segment stopped in the middle and I got the message "not enough bandwidth, please use our test page". It then measured my upload and download speeds and suggested that I download IPlayer for PC to download future shows.
Although this thread is about the iPad app, I find it strange that a paid subscription service and a claim that my bandwidth stinks isn't just a ruse to restrict their free content.
