CoryB, I think MTS is only installing FiON where they don't have VDSL2 (Ultimate TV) until 2015. The only exception might be if the copper wire in a neighbourhood is so old that it has to be replaced, they would replace it with fibre instead of stringing new copper wire.

Those neighbourhoods that have FTTH probably have hybrid fibre/copper cable that was run before MTS had designed their FiON system with the expectation they would be eventually be using fibre and it was cheaper to run hybrid cable than to go back and run fibre 10 or 15 years later. There probably isn't a lot of advantage for MTS to convert them now since they already have all the services, while places like Oakbank and Niverville will be getting Ultimate TV and 25Mbps internet for the first time.
