Did PBS Buffalo OTA switch to 720P?

To my surprise when I tuned in PBS tonight my tv reported it as 720P.
Is this a temporary move while they sort out the ghosting and jello head issues?

Samsung LCD, Emotiva Lmc-1 pre-amp, Rotel RMB-1075 power amp, B&W Nautilus 805 "book shelf" speakers etc.

Yes they did switch, as discussed in the WNED ghosting thread.

It could be permanent - Detroit did this a while back since they are multicasting also and this saves a bit of bandwidth.

That would be a shame

I rely on OTA for HD and with no discovery HD this is bad news. Hopefully when analog goes away in the states they will switch back.

I noticed you moved this thread to the OTA section. Is PBS still broadcast in 1080i via Rogers/Bell at all? Just curious.

1. I didn't move this thread, Stampeder did.

2. Rogers doesn't broadcast, they are a service provider and they "passthrough" the signal format that they get. See the Digital Home FAQ (under help) "HDTV Formats."

I guess SC is the only one that upconverts it...

Since all PBS-HD are the same at this point, why don't they just put Seattle instead of Detroit?

This probably has to do with contracts and also how the signal is received. Remember that this particular thread is about OTA and should not be discussing service providers.

For those who want to keep 1080i, I guess you'll have to convince your providers to pick up one of the two PBS stations in Montreal (WCFE or WETK)...
