Which Plasma? - Thread for those buying a Plasma

I tried posting this once, however, the post went into a three page post. So hopefully it will post in its own thread this time.

I have spent the past three days reading reading reading, I was unable to post. Its funny, I was looking at DLP toshiba the 52hmx85 series. After reading all these posts I learned that DLP bulbs for the toshiba is something that I dont want to deal with. Then I read a thread that converted me to plasma.

I am looking at the HPR4272 and panasonic px500. The first thing is that I am partial to the px500. I just did not see speakers on the unit. This tv is for the whole family, which will include barney, wiggles and dora from time to time.....I know I know. I just dont want to have to turn on a stereo to watch basic television.

I just want to know, any coments positive or negative.

I have the px500. Having a kid as well I too did not want to always use the HT system. Speakers sound pretty good. The virtual surround sound works well but I never use it. Kids shows look pretty good on it. The kids shows on PBS in HD look amazing! I was looking at both the models you were looking at when choosing and the Panasonic looked so much better then the Samsung

Panasonic TH42PX500, Sony Blu Ray Player, XBOX 360 w/ Kinect, Apple TV 2, Rogers 8642 HD PVR

thanks for the reply. I am still trying to see what the best deal is. Future shop has the px500 on for 3499 right now. I am just cautious to purchase right now. I have heard that they price is going to drop again around June when the new systems come out.

I am pretty sure that this is the model that I am going to get.

Which plasma - 1 Panasonic and 2 Hitachis?

I've narrowed down my plasma TV choice to 3 models and was wondering whether any readers had experiences with these that they would share?

Panasonic TH42PX50
Hitachi PDP4360HD
Hitachi Elite PRO-930HD

Aren't those Pioneer models, not Hitachi? The reviews I have read have been very good on that Panasonic (and it's bigger 50" version). The Pioneer product is also quite good too, so all I can tell you is that it looks like you are considering good products, but reviews and customer feedback that I have read gives the edge to the Panasonic models. I am sure that there are people in this forum who own these products and can give you first hand recommendations...

Perhaps you should check the Panasonic and Pioneer forums to get specific feedback on those models...

Sorry, those are Pioneer. Don't know why I typed Hitachi - not even thinking about those.

That's last year's model. The new model is $1000 cheaper and has a new gen screen. The new model is available only in US. If you live close to border, drive south and buy it there. It will be cheaper than buying in Canada.

Maybe you don't have to go south.

Audiotronic has it for $3488.88.

They have store about everywhere in Québec (except Québec city).

Can't believe it's only here. On the other hand, if you order from here, you save some tax, don't you?

The TH42PX50 has been replaced by the TH42PX60. It will be available in Canada very shortly. How do I know? Because I've ordered one through a friend at Panasonic Canada and it will be arriving in the next few weeks. It will be $500 cheaper because it does not have a CableCARD slot (a subsequent model in July will have one). The MSRP is CDN$3,500 (compared to CDN$4,000 for the old model).

The TH42PX60 is arguably "uglier" in appearance but that's purely subjective. I'm not bothered by it. I buy a television to watch what's on it, not the unit itself. On the plus side, it has two HDMI/HDCP ports, which will be very useful.

BTW, since CableCARD service is not yet available in Canada, that feature is of no consequence. And besides, I plan to get a HD PVR.

42PX600 and 50PX600 are more "asthetically" pleasing in appearence. They will be out very soon. They aren't on the Pana site yet.
