I was ticked off at this. Sure no price increase in 2 years but also a reduction in service as well. They took away my newsgroup service so I had to pay $10 a month elsewhere for that! They also outsourced their mail to Yahoo. I agree bandwidth prices should be going down, not up. In any case I called them up and complained about it. I stated that I'd be happy to pay more if they increase their bandwidth, but I see no service increase to me for this huge increase ($7 for me as I was at 44.95/mo on extreme service). So they put me through to customer relations and I argued for a $10/mo credit for 12 months to keep me a happy customer.

I'll be shopping around next year if they don't increase service before my credit runs out.

If Rogers had stated or even implied in their letter that they were going to somehow enhance their service, I probably would have let the rate increase ride.

As it is, I'm going to keep the Extreme service as I think even at the new price it's value for the money. However, for strictly financial considerations, I'm going to pare back my TV cable sevices. Specifically, I'm dropping SportsPak and saving $25.00 monthly. So with the Extreme price increase I'll still be $20.00
a month ahead of the game.

I'm tired of my Rogers bill looking like my Visa bill every month.

Thanx Rogers! You've saved me money.

I called Rogers to reduce my cable services because I was a little upset at them raising Extreme Internet by $7 /month. I ended up dropping the TMN movies package and other channels, saving me about $45 /month. Then they transferred me to drop my Extreme Internet to Express Internet and the CSR offered me a $10 /month credit for 12 months for me to stay with Extreme. I will stick with Extreme for now because the CSR kind of indicated that there were big things in store for Extreme Internet, but he said he could not give me details.

While it doesn't deal specifically with the Extreme tier of service, Rogers announced a new offering today:

The "Elite" tier will offer 18Mb download, capped at 100GB (with an overage charge of $1.25 / GB beyond that). Price will be $99.95. Available starting in Q4.

At that price, it should include Digital TV and Rogers home phone service and include no caps (or 250GB, at least)

Well, they must have switched me to Express sometime in the past week. I honestly didn't notice (I mostly do web surfing, with the occasional download, which hasn't changed speeds for me anyway - only the upload speed changed) Here's my performance, exactly as advertized.

Download Speed: 4862 kbps (607.8 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 379 kbps (47.4 KB/sec transfer rate)

$99 per month seems a bit high even for my blood...especially with the 100Gb cap...I don't think I've ever gone over 100Gb...but for that price you'd think you'd get more.

It looks like I'm finally getting the proper speed, 5879kbps down, 789kbps up. (using 57's site, choosing New York) Excellent.

I noticed an increase in speed yesterday (I'm on Exteme). I was getting ~750 kilobytes/sec (previously it was around ~620 kilobytes/sec). Upload speed remained the same at ~100 kilobytes/sec.

What is the upload speed going to be like? I want to put together a server and host at home (SBS Server with Echange).

I get 5678 kbps down and 788 kbps up using 57 speed test link.

from what I have been hearing from people that I know that work at Rogers is that within a few months of extreme prices going up, they are bumping the download speed to between 12 and 15Mb/s which would bring their pricing inline with all the other cable providers in Canada that have a faster internet package at those speeds and close to those prices.

So the price change is just a way of telling us that we are now upgrading to higher speeds but actually paying for it? If it is so, I don't mind the increase.

Mine was also dropped down to Express (you can view it online on the Rogers website to see which services you have).

I just tested mine and got 4250 download and 375 upload.
I can't even notice the difference from Extreme and its $3 cheaper than b4 !
