Smile MTS TV RG2400 Harmony Remote WORKS!

I needed a universal remote that would work with the MTS TV Motorola RG2400 box. To make a very long story short I finally purchased a Harmony 688 remote. CONTRARY to what MTS TV support may say the Harmony remote DOES work with the RG2400 box, but will only work in the room where the box is located - it uses either IP or RF for the main location.

BAsic set-up of the remote is moderately easy and pretty straight forward once you get the hang of the web based set-up. Tweaking is a bit more challenging but certainly doable by someone with moderatle level of technical skill/understanding.

I had to call Harmony support and would say they are very good - patient to be sure.

SO final word is that depsite what MTS may say the Harmony 688 universal remote will work and I suspect some other might as well. BTW, I could not get the box to work with a cheap ALL-FOR-ONE using codes supplied by MOtorola nor with the remote that came with my SONY TV, in case you are wondering. But the 688 was fine.

Thanks to 204 in the forum for the advice and help!!!

Also works great for me on my MTS TV. Works even on the new RG3000 HD box.

If you have the newer MTS remote (the SRC-200A), you can also set it to use infrared to control your RG, which will let you use any universal remote that offers IR capture as a programming method. To set your remote for IR control, follow these steps:

Press and hold the A button until LED blinks.
Press 7-8-9-0 on your remote.

Program Remote for IR Stream 1 (main TV, aka channel 4)
Press and hold the B button until LED blinks.
Press 7-8-9-001 on your remote.

Program Remote for IR Stream 2 (channel 8)
Press and hold the B button until LED blinks.
Press 7-8-9-002 on your remote.

Program Remote for IR Stream 3 (channel 11)
Press and hold the B button until LED blinks.
Press 7-8-9-003 on your remote.

It took me forever to find these, so if they help someone else, then it was worth it...

The MTStv RG's haven't been tested with any third party remotes, the channel 8 and 11 tv's use RF so I doubt you would find a remote that will work with those TV's off the shelf. If you were using a high end remote that has RF learning features you could get them to work. The MTStv RG's aren't designed by Motorola (although they are now manufactured by them), so when searching for a code try anything listed as Next Level Communications, or use the learning feature if equipped.

I hate to necro this thread, but I thought I'd share some information for the slightly newer remotes (SRC-300A) for MTS TV. It works very much like the procedure for the SRC-200A.

First put the remote into IR Mode:
  • Press and hold the LED button until it starts blinking.
  • Press the Record button.
  • Press the A button.
  • Press 0.
  • The LED button should flash repeatedly when done.

Program it with the required remote control ID:
  • Press and hold the LED button until it starts blinking.
  • Press the Record button.
  • Press the B button.
  • Enter 001 for channel 4, 002 for channel 8, or 003 for channel 11. (IDs 004-999 are used for RF mode)
  • The LED button should flash repeatedly when done.

I have not yet found the code combination for the new universal remotes MTS is using (there may not be one).

If you're looking for the setup for the MTS universal remote, check the booklet that came with the remote. The info is all there as I recall.

MTS Universal Remotes

I'm just working my way through setting up a MythTV Box, and I found the universal setup. I'm reposting it here.

(Link - Yuck, and who knows if it will work in the future).

Menu Choices: MTS Personal // TV // MTS Classic TV Service // Remotes // MTS Universal Remote

Step 4 – Setting the Remote Control Stream for each of the three (3) MTS Remote controls

(Channels 04 or 08 or 11)

* Press and release MTS button on the remote control.
* Press and hold the SETUP button down until MTS button blinks twice.
* Enter 9-5-4. MTS button will blink twice.

Valid codes are either, 0, 1, 2 or 3

* 1 = your main TV with the Home Gateway/Set Top Box in another room.
* 2 = your 2nd TV that is physically set to channel 8.
* 3 = your 3rd TV that is physically set to channel
