Can't speak for MTS, but if you google IPTV, you'll see the technology can provide HDTV. Pundits on these forums tend to disagree though. I take the view that if the Telco's don't they're toast (unless, of course, Hugh is correct in his excellent articles about the future of HDTV verses SD(ED)TV. From what I've read MTS is using VDSL rather than ADSL2+ (Telus). VDSL is supposed to be a superior technology. Bottom line is, wait and see!

I doubt that. Different technology. This is good news as it means the Telco's are overcoming the HD bandwidth issue.

I work with the ex-wife of a MTS engineer. She says he told her MTS will have HD soon. Before the end of the year.

My number one service I want is HD and all digital would be a benefit. Internet then phone. So if this is true I will make the jump if they have more HD even though I just spent $800 on a DCT6412 III. I think they will have to offer a PVR too cause it really changes the way u watch t.v.

Do the current MTS SD STBs have a SPDIF output? I Know u can hook up more than one t.v. with those antena deals but can u rent more than one STB for the same house so u can get DD AC-3 5.1 on two receivers?

the older RG2200 set top box has a coaxial (RCA connectors) SPDIF output while the newer RG2400 set top box has an optical fiber connection...

they dont rent out the set top box but you do have to pay for another monthly subscription...an extra set top box will need another cable pair from the outside plant for its bandwidth...

give them a call and inquire about getting a discount for having another set top box...
