Never heard of all those internet packages, nor seen them on their site, what are the differences in them? Plus, Reach, what?

Most of those are old internet packages that are no longer sold. Reach was sold in certain rural areas, I'm not sure if it is still sold.

Lightning 10 is the only current Winnipeg plan that is affected. There is no price increase for Lightning 25 or Lightning 50.

I think the "Plus" plans included dial-up internet access (DSL "plus" dial-up).

It's good to know that 25 and 50 aren't affected; I was about to ask about those plans.

Another price increase. All I know is that when pick and pay comes in March that my cable bill is going to decrease about 50 % once I get rid of the channels I'm forced to buy in a bundle but don't watch.

MTS posted in their Community forums that they would be releasing details on their CRTC-mandated skinny basic package "sometime next week."

The content is mandated by the CRTC. The only questions are: will U.S. networks be included, how will they package the "extra" channels that will be removed from basic and will skinny basic be eligible for bundling with other services?

Its a good thing I asked... Or they would have stayed quiet.

I hope the price point is a couple dollars cheaper... So that with equipment rental it will be $25. I also wonder if total internet rebate for equipment would work with skinny basic.

Spoke to MTS today, getting the information was like pulling teeth and the agent had to consult with supervisor.

Anyway, this is what I got about MTS's skinny basic:

- will include Canadian networks
- will include US networks
- will include HD
- will cost $25

Further details will be released by their "marketing department" closer to (or on) launch date.

Starter Package (Skinny Basic)

MTS put the pricing of their "Starter" package on their web page:
$28/month (includes first wired set-top box rental worth $3/month.)
It includes the equivalent HD channels and the U.S. networks.

You can see all the channels here (can be sorted by package.)
https://www3.mts.ca/mts/personal/tv/...g/all+channels

I noticed that they lumped all the "extra" channels from the original Basic into "Essentials," but there doesn't seem to by any way to order them aside from ordering the full Basic, which is $17 more than Starter.

The good news is that MTS has always had cheap "channel groups" - most are $3 - $4 and have about 5 channels. I noticed that they have taken down the link to the PDF of their channel brochure - they must still be working on the new one.

According to an MTS post in their Community Forum, the Starter package is not eligible for bundling. A user post says that if you have Total Internet the set top and PVR credits will still apply (not confirmed by MTS.)

Thinking of switching from Shaw to MTS, and wondering if there are any MTS reps lurking to help.

Just need Internet, I know the standard 1/2 offer is a 3 month promo, but wanting a 6 or 12 month promo if possible. Lighting 25, maybe 50 is the price/terms are right.

Any feedback on best I could get for this?

Your best option to contact a rep is to go to the MTS community forum MTS.ca/community they have no reps on other forum platforms. You could also dm then on Twitter @ mtshelps

MTS finalized their Printable TV Channel Packages Brochure PDF on Friday, which sheds a little more light on their packaging. The following channels are grouped as "Essentials" and are only available if you "upgrade" from Starter to Basic:

CBC News Network
Game TV
GustoTV
MuchMusic
Stingray Music
TSN 1-5
Vision TV
YTV East & West

The following channels are grouped as "Extras" and are "included with your set-top box rental", which means everyone will get them, since everyone needs an STB. That's an interesting way to work around the CRTC restriction that extra channels can't be included in "skinny basic".

288 Al Jazeera English
96 Apps on TV Demo Channel
27 Daystar Canada
190/1190 FNTSY Sports Network
179 Horseracing 1&2
40 MTS TV Free View Channel
29 MTS TV Weather
93 MyPicks
287 RT (Russia TV)
83 SOCIAL TV
7 The Shopping Channel
1016 The Weather Network App
92 Ultimate Picks
9 What's On MTS TV
menu choices Buddy TV, MyMenu and Twitter on TV

Looks like an interesting way to stick people with channels they don't want. Other than CBC and TSN who wants anything else on that list?

MTS Pick and Pay

MTS has released a new brochure "Current as of November 22, 2016."
https://www.mts.ca/file_source/mts/a...vember2016.pdf

Here is the PDF of "Individual channel pricing" as required by the CRTC (pick and pay.)
https://www.mts.ca/file_source/mts/a...icing_2016.pdf

The individual channel pricing is also shown for each channel in a channel group by clicking on the plus sign.
https://www.mts.ca/residential/tv

Some companies like Bell Media have made their wholesale prices so high that it would cost $8 for one channel like Space or Bravo, when the group that they are in is only $4 and you get 5 channels for that price.

On the other hand, if you don't want the whole Entertainment group for $4, you can get just Showcase (Corus) for $1.99.

Starting today CraveTV is available to Ultimate TV customers for only $5.99 a month with the first month free (compared to $7.99 if you don't subscribe through your TV provider.)
