2wire gateway issues

Has any one else had any weird issues with their 2WIRE Gateways.

Rebooting seems to solve them but at one time or another I have had:

1) lost the ability to go to "google web page" - internet seemed to work but I could not get to google page
2) Total loss of wireless. I had to go into the gateway setup and turn it back on (and set the signal strength)
3) been totally frozen and locked out

PS: what every you do do not hit the "RESET" button on the gateway. This seemed to give me lots of problems getting the gateway back up. You are better off to unplug and replug in to reboot/reset.

Is this just from one computers or multiple computers? Using wired or wireless to your PC's?

If it's common to multiple machines on your network your gateway may be a "lemon."

It'd do a bit more troubleshooting on the PC side of things before calling MTS for a replacement however.

I have 2 wireless and 1 wired computer on the network plus a three wireless connected video games/I Pod touches and a wired blueray player.

I all cases all computers were effected. I kind of suspected that there COULD be a hardware problem with the gateway - but problems seem random and don't seem to reappear.

It sounds like a pretty annoying problem to have. From what you've stated it appears to be a gateway related issue. I would definitely contact MTS to try and get a replacement gateway if you encounter any more problems.

One possible cause may be torrents. I haven't heard of any problems specifically with the 2wire, but I have heard of other routers crashing due to too many torrent connections.

Some questions to help isolate the problem:
Do you use torrents?
If so, which program?
Do you limit the number of connections?
Do the crashes coincide with heavy torrent activity?
When the wired PC loses connection, can the Blu-ray still connect?
Do you lose the TV streams when the wired PC hangs?

That's a good point Dave, I've had similar issues on my "classic" TV service with torrents, I found that the internet quit altogether at times, and other times the internet was ridiculously slow. I found that throttling down the upload between 10-25Kb/s resolved the connectivity issues I had.

Bittorrent/P2P is likely causing the problem. Limit the number of 'connections' down to 150.
