But the Apple TV, via the Fibe app, sees the recording and indicates you can’t watch it until the recording is finished.
Sounds like that solution doesn't work with the Apple TV 4.

@Dr.Dave , Sounds like MediaFirst TV Platform is simply the next version of Mediaroom which appears to be already in use by Bell. There's nothing better than a new name to generate hype and sell more product. It may extend new functionality to other platforms but Ericsson is in the business to sell its own boxes and software, not third party products like the Apple TV 4. Fibe boxes will most likely continue to have better integration with Bell PVRs. It also sounds like MediaFirst may move PVR recordings to cloud, eliminating the need for a consumer PVR. That's now a number of other IPTV platforms function.

The boxes are made by Arris (previously by Motorola) so it's just the Mediaroom and MediaFirst software including the back-end plumbing. I read that there are over 40 million STBs running Mediaroom worldwide and they just announced a small-footprint version that will run on various under-powered legacy cable boxes with a lot of the processing happening in the cloud.

Apple restricts what an app developer can do, so it may not be possible to provide the tight integration with the PVR that a developer can accomplish when he controls the software down to the bare metal.

MediaFirst has been around for quite awhile before that agreement was announced. It's not clear what the back-end software powering the Fibe TV app was previously.
