Any recommendations for an alternative to Bell phone service?

Ooma. You can buy it at Costco. I think that the service costs less than $5 a month.

You can also get a MagicJack at walmart for about $45.00 that comes with a year of free service calling across Canada and U.S.

There are certainly lots of VOIP options out there ranging in (monthly) price from zero to almost zero, or a few dollars. I have also read that Ooma is one of the easier ones to use for people that are not too technical and are not looking at saving every last penny.

However, this is not the thread for discussing alternatives. If you want to talk VOIP, please use the following forum.

We got our monthly payment reduced from 252 to 165 (3 services). 2 guys came door-to-door offering Rogers Ignite for $175 for the same services (home phone, unlimited Internet, and 3 4K TV boxes - though we don't have 4K boxes with Bell, I guess all Ignite is 4K). I called Bell, was put through to the loyalty department, and they offered me a much lower price. At the same time I removed some home phone services we don't use to reduce it a touch more. Worth asking! I checked Rogers online, and the 175 seemed to be the going rate, but the door-to-door guys may have thrown in two extra boxes.

Wow, thats a good deal for all 3 services. Is that a permanent price or only for a year. By the way all Ignite Boxes are 4K which is standard, you just have to supply the 4K tv.

I'm not sure how much your paying Bell, but I'll bet if you where paying over $400/month, like I am you'd get great discounts. I got $25/month off my Fibe TV for 2 years & $20/month off my internet for 2 years. It was the same when I had Rogers paying over $400/month and got great deals.

I'm guessing the more you pay the more your provider will bend over backwards to keep you.

Humbar: I can't remember if I asked about the term, so maybe only for a year. We'll reevaluate when the price increases I guess.
