When I switched to Telus 2 years ago, I got the TV and internet with 6 months promo price (now is only 3 months). I didn't got a free TV. I was on month-to-month since day 1. After 6 months, I called Telus loyalty department(I think it is voice prompt #4 to cancel service) and got another discount for another 6 months. Since then, I always got discount from Telus loyalty department after previous discount expired. I will stay with Telus for next few years if Telus continues to renew the yearly student promo.

I was planning to switch back to Shaw two years ago before switching to Telus. I kept my gateway boxes. But I finally sold them early last year. Now, Shaw is going to have a new system. Good thing, I sold them while it still worth money.

Im a very low volume TV watcher. To me free over the air tv is more than enough. I do consume a lot of internet. That's why Telus pricing is so bad for me - they are charging $30 for unlimited internet which you add on to already high ($88) 50MBps price. So internet only is going to cost me $120. This is how they offset TV revenue loss I think.

I really hope we see good pricing as people in Ontario. They pay the same or less amount for 250MBps of speed.

I am not a fan of contracts, and especially staying away from anything Telus offers.

I just question timing, since I believe they will have better promotions pretty soon.

Edit:

I finally see the edit button - since this is my 10th post I believe that's the flag that enables editing function on this forum.

I've been paying around $100 including taxes for Telus 50 and lots of channels for a long time. I would like to lock in but they never ask me. I asked once to lock me in but they didn't seem eager.

Agree. The unlimited internet add-on is $30 without Optik TV. If you have TV, the add-on becomes $15 and there is extra $5 - $10 discount some where. Your bill may end up the same with or without TV

Yah, On my plan I think Essentials is now $33 (It was $30 and I think it went up by $3). I get a $5 discount for having it bundled with internet. I save $5 on the bundle (internet discount) and $15 (unlimited discount) for a total of $20. Making the difference between having essentials and not having essentials about $13. I do have the sports addon which is $14, so if I went internet only I'd only save $27 a month. At this point I'm willing to pay the $27 for TV services/Sports.

It's clever how Telus integrates their services to make you buy multiple ones. Shaw abandoned bundle discounts years ago so it's really easy to only get 1 service from them.

edit: If you have your cell phone with Telus, can you get the internet discounts, without needing cable?

But Telus service is expensive. I have Koodo for my cellphone. There is no discount with Koodo.

Yes you can get an additional $5 bundle discount for bundling Telus Cell Service. It shows up on your home service bill, not the Cell bill. Presumably you can have Cell and any one other Telus service for two $5 bundle discounts but I am not absolutely certain.

Misleading ad?

Am I the only who finds the Telus ad campaign using the tag "Pay for the channels you actually want with Optik TV®" to be seriously misleading if not outright false?

To me that says I should be able to get full pick and pay.

Yeah that's what it says, and it's misleading. I got that stupid thing in the mail. What a freaking joke! I can't actually pay for the channels I actually want, now can I?

@Canucks4life In December but don't expect your cable bill to be way cheaper. Right now cable companies must have either Pick and Pay OR smaller theme packs. Pretty much all of them have the smaller theme packs.
@Wheelman It is just typical marketing. True pick and pay will be in December and don't expect your bill to be lower. Right now cable companies must have either Pick and Pay OR smaller theme packs. Pretty much all of them have the smaller theme packs.

The current P&P price that Telus/Bell charge right now is $4 per channel. Knowing Bell I doubt that $4 price point will drop when full P&P comes in December.
$25 for basic plus 10 P&P channels would be $65/month. No bargain. You will be wishing you took a package.

With or without the words "theme packs", I am still paying for channels I don't want. Even at a $4 price point for P&P I still save $3 for every theme pack I have to buy now to get one channel I want.
