Hi all, here in Ocala,Fl. we receive ch6 CBS from Orlando,Fl via a repeater tower about 3 miles from here. Late September they went through a change in equipment and frequency from 42 to 21 which brought them up to the ATSC 3.0 specifications. I thought great the future is on the way.
Forward to November 4, they're gone, completely.
I emailed the techs at the station and they replied that yes, we are having issues....
Ten days later I emailed again, they expanded slightly and mentioned a major equipment failure and new systems are on the way. Systems?? So the rumor mill has been full of every disaster conceivable yet the station is very tight lipped as to an explanation. They remain dark.
This CBS affiliate station serves most of central Florida via three repeater towers that I know of carrying 5 channels OTA.
That's millions of eyeballs and millions of dollars lost.
Today, 2 December they are still dark, email received the standard reply of technical issues and they are working on it. This must have been a catastrophic failure to the broadcast equipment to keep them down for so long. While I miss the channels I can't help feel sorry for those working feverishly to get back in the air.
You can bet somebody took the blame and got fired, poor sot.
