@thenewdc. MoCA is an IP based technology. It's essentially a flavour of ethernet that uses coaxial cabling instead. The 4642, 8642, and 9865 are QAM/IP equipment and can be flipped to IP only mode at any time by the MSO. The only thing that might become obsolete is the processing capabilities.

The 9865 has the ability to convert QAM to IP enabling things like the ability to watch PVR and live TV on other devices like tablets and smartphones. In addition, it would allow the 4642 to pause and rewind live tv. However, none of these features will be in use by Rogers, at least not at launch.
