TSN audiences up 27%

The first quarter of the 2008-09 broadcast season (Sept. 1 to Nov. 30, 2008 inclusive) was a strong one for TSN with the networks average audience up 27% compared to last season to 113,000

While TSN's overall audience grew, competitors Rogers Sportsnet and The Score both saw their average audiences decrease.

Leading the increase at the network was SportsCentre, the network's flagship daily sport news program. The late edition (at approximately 10 p.m. ET) was up 36%, the evening edition (6:30 p.m. ET) was up 32% and the overnight edition (2 a.m. ET) was up 62% respectively.

Other big gainers were TSN's:
  • NHL broadcasts, up 21% to an average of 496,000 viewers,
  • NFL, up 14% to 370,000 viewers
  • NBA, up 27% to 209,000 viewers.

Nothing about the CFL?
I thought that would have brought some eyes.

I guess that's what happens when sports channels no longer broadcast sports programming (radio shows on TV, WWE, poker)

And in The Score's case, even when they do have show NBA games, I rarely watch because it's not in HD on Shaw.

Panasonic TH-42PE7U plasma, Toshiba HD-D3, PS3, Shaw DCX3400, Yamaha HTR-6160, Polk 6.1, Belkin PF30, Harmony 700

No mention. I guess the numbers were similar to last year so they weren't notable.

Do these figures include both TSNs or just the main channel?

Big jump in the NBA numbers. I wonder if the numbers will start to fall if the Raptors continue in a downward spiral.

There was this in the press-release on their website,

CFL regular season games increased by 6% compared to last season when games aired on both CBC and TSN.
Nothing about only TSN's numbers though.
