Yea and then they stayed on right up until 10:00am, even after the interviews were over (at least from what I could tell, I was watching tennis).

For some reason Speed thinks that it is a good idea to delay four races a year to air exclusively on Fox. Kind of like how NBC thinks its a good idea to delay Olympic coverage, I guess.

TSN could not have predicted that tennis would be over by 11:30, at the start of the tournament it was predicted that Federer-Nadal would be in the final. Remember that last year at Wimbledon their match didn't get over until around 3:00pm ET. TSN has a busy day with NASCAR from 12:30-6:30 and NBA Finals from 8-10:30.

I'd like to know why TSN is not showing it at least after tenis is over at noon.... I couldn't believe TSN wasn't covering it but when I saw that even Speed was not I was shocked.... What's going on?!
I'm guessing someone didn't read post 188, or post 1, or the link in post 1 of this thread.

I was curious, so I just tuned in to Fox Channels 526 and 531 on Rogers. It's not blacked out. Interesting...

I'm not sure what the restriction is - whether it's

"live coverage" or

"same day coverage" or something else...

Perhaps TSN has requested Speed be blocked by the service providers, but didn't notice the Fox coverage today.

The simple reason that it isn't blacked out is because you can't force a blackout on a OTA channel, you can only simsub. That's the same reason that TSN can't black out NBC for Sunday Night Football or NHL coverage etc.

Since the timing and type of Speed coverage isn't always exactly the same as TSN, that programme is usually blacked out. There is no reason that TSN couldn't ask Rogers to black out Fox, the same way Speed gets blacked out. Granted, people who can receive Fox OTA would not be blacked out, in the same way they don't get simsubbed OTA.

Since Fox was not airing at exactly the same time, there is no simsub opportunity, only a blackout opportunity, which could be done by the service provider if requested by TSN. I don't see why you say it can't be blacked out by the provider, the same way that Speed is blacked out for the day...

I'm assuming the exclusive rights negotiated by TSN are for "same day coverage" since Speed has been blacked out on their airings of the programme later in the day (for example, they have aired the race later in the day, but it was blacked out), but could air it later in the week - for example I believe Speed will be re-airing the race on Tuesday.

As I said before TSN isn't allowed to request a blackout of an OTA channel, its a CRTC rule. I'm not going to take the time to find a link on the CRTC website about it, but I remember reading about it before. In that same way Rogers/Bell/Shaw etc. aren't allowed to blackout an OTA channel. It's the same reason why TSN can't blackout NBC, CBS, Fox or ABC for any other events, even though they own exclusive Canadian rights to many events that those networks air. However they can blackout NFL Network for Thursday night football games, and CBC was allowed to blackout CNBC and MSNBC (but not NBC) during their Olympic coverage.

Thanks for the tips and not spoiling it for me

Ended up watching it on FOX at 3:00. I never thought to check TSN2. Since qualy was on TSN I assumed the race would be too. Why would TSN not advertise this? Lately all I have seen on TSN is ads for various things on TSN2. Did it not down on them to advertise it during qualy on Saturday that the race would be on TSN2?

Any how thans for the info and the link. It was a decent race with some nice passing.

Cheers

Why would TSN not advertise this?
During the Nationwide race on TSN, Saturday night, they extensively advertised F1 at 8am on TSN2. However, the messages often sound the same and the channel number can be easily missed. I often go to racefantv, where George Webster has a concise listing of all auto racing.

The TSN2 broadcast was great. All the post interviews weren't cut off,and there was even a race recap afterwards.

I now record both TSN's and the later Speed broadcast incase TSN cuts off anything interesting.

Apart from Barrichello's antics, there wasn't much action.Nice track though, and some nice shots of the cars appearing through the heat haze.

According to a sports recap show on CTV's Montreal affiliate there were only 37,000 at the Turkish GP.

Your welcome 57, I wasn't aware of it either until a year or so ago. William Houston or somebody mentioned it in one of their articles. When you think about it, it makes sense because as I said OTA stations are never blacked out by TSN or Sportsnet.

I saw lots of ads for the race being on TSN2, and I didn't even watch TSN much on the weekend.

Wow, and to think that it is basically taking the old Canadian Grand Prix's spot on the calender.

Good race

I rarely watch anything other than F1 on TSN so I would only have seen ads during qualifying. Anyway it wasn't a big deal I was just worried that TSN may stop broadcasting the reaces all together. F1 was never a priority for them frequently cutting off ends of races and preempting the beginning with curling etc. They cut the pre-race coverage this season too. Did they show the pre race on TSN2? I do get TSN2 so it won't be a problem going forward. I didn't realize I got TSN2 so I was worried I'd have to shell out more money for yet another package when I saw the posts here.

Cheers.
