IndyCar Series Discussions

Sunday's Grand Prix of Long Beach (4pm ET), one of the most prestigious event on the IndyCar calendar, will not be broadcast on Canadian TV: No live broadcast, not even a delayed telecast is schedule, both in English & French.

In English, it's normally on Sportsnet 360, but for Long Beach, Rogers decided that WWE (not live BTW) is more important and the race will not be on air. The only legal way to watch the GP in Canada will be via Sportsnet's OTT service: Sportsnet NOW.

IndyCar isn't broadcast in french anymore since TVA Sports didn't renew their contract at the end of 2017.

I was wondering what was going on because originally they had a one hour timeslot, and now nothing. Good timing with Canadian Robert Wickens being so competitive.

That's what the SN schedule showed earlier this week (4-7PM EDT), but no longer. Rogers originally only had 1 hour at 4PM, but the IPG has been updated, so now nothing...

Your provider IPG probably just hasn't been updated.

Scott Moore, Sportsnet President, has tweeted that the race will be on Sportsnet 360 after all.

Haha...just after I read your post, I went into my Gateway app and it was there and then disappeared before my eyes! Hopefully it will come back before Sunday or I'll record whatever it says and hope for the best.

I just checked my Telus PVR recording schedule and magically there it was . Long Beach Grand Prix. Sportsnet 360 ( Channel 918HD ) at 1:00 PM PDST Sunday.

Funny thing is... I hadn't scheduled it to be recorded yet.

I guess enough people screamed and shouted....

The Alabama race, rain delayed from yesterday, will supposedly air at 11:30AM today on SN360. It's not in the Rogers IPG, so I've just set the programme on at that time to record and added 3 hours...

Did anyone watch Sportsnet's coverage of the Toronto race? Were they on-site as usual giving the appearance they actually give a **** about the sport?

In the 5 previous years, for the Toronto race, Sportsnet had their own 30-minute pre-race show before switching to NBCSN's coverage. During the race, 2 or 3 times, Sportsnet would go to their own pit lane reporter (Todd Lewis) when NBCSN is in a commercial break. After the race, the end of NBCSN telecast was replaced by Sportsnet's own studio coverage.

This year, looks like Sportsnet has only use NBCSN's coverage like for all other races in the calendar. The only difference for Toronto was the Qualifying session being broadcast on Saturday night (and a replay before the race).

Thanks for the info. Pathetic coverage from them, but TSN wouldn't do any better based on their non-existent coverage of the Canadian Formula 1 GP.

Has the Sportsnet deal with IndyCar expired? It seems it was initially for five years, but it's now been six?

Scott Moore, who negotiated the contract ... is no longer with the Rogers company... I emailed IndyCar and asked about this. I have not heard back. Uh-oh.
As for IMSA, I don't particularly care whether or not a Canadian TV channel shows it as long as it remains available to us on the IMSA website. The FoxSports TV coverage was more like constant repetitive commercials occasionally interrupted by a couple of minutes of actually showing the races.
And, "I do not like, in 2019, watching anything on my computer screen and I lack the technical know-how to hook up my laptop to my big-screen TV."
I don't want to seem too demeaning to a guy who is 75+ years old, but since he apparently can work his computer and his TV, I would assume it shouldn't be such a hugely complicated challenge to use an HDMI cable to connect them and set the TV to view the appropriate input on its screen, or maybe get someone to show him how?

I think we are being forced to use our computers to watch these events - TSN and SN rather show highlights all day on 5 channels then one of these events.

IndyCar should put together their own streaming service. I'd pay for it and I'm sure they would make money on it.

I watch most of the races after they are done (which is easy to do without spoilers since you won't accidentally hear IndyCar coverage/results on the radio or news unless something tragic happens) and would enjoy a good, clean feed instead of some "grey" broadcast someone put up on YouTube.

I feel bad for older fans (which if like F1's recent report, most race fans are over 40) that have to jump through hoops to see a race. I volunteer with a lot of seniors and they cannot even work a basic cable box with a guide display, so I can't see them understanding how to stream or connect a HDMI cable.
