Fake YouTube pages used to spread viruses

But even some sophisticated surfers could get taken in by a sneaky new attack in which criminals create fake YouTube pages — dead-on replicas of the real site — to push their malicious software and make it look like it's safe stuff coming from a trusted source.
Quote:
A program circulating online helps hackers build those fake pages. Users who follow an e-mail pointing them to one of the pages would see an error message that claims the video they want won't play without installing new software first. That error message includes a link the hacker has provided to a malicious program, which delivers a virus.
Warning!

Old news to me. Fortunately I am not that dumb to fall for it.

I wouldn't fall for this type of scam, either, but there are a lot of people who would.

Thanks for the info., hugh - I've forwarded it to a number of people as an "FYI"...

Well, I guess you are just practically perfect in every way! The other 99% of the population, however, does make mistakes on occasion so a reminder to be vigilant might be considered a good thing!

Thanks for the heads up, Hugh. I frequently come across sites that say I need a special plug-in to download a video. Last year I spent about ten minutes trying to download a plug-in that would enable me to see 1080p video clips of the Amazon and underwater reefs and luckily I wasn't successful in installing the programme.

Good to know. I don't think I'm as smart as Classicsat (who is really), so it's something to look out for.

I had a good friend, who is very tech savy, who found out he needed a special codec to watch a video clip.......
He told me he used to make fun of people who fell for scams like this...
Thanks as well for the heads up, as I am super paranoid and won't fall for a scam like this, but there are many others who will

Two friends of mine got suckered by downloading "free" porn. It cost them each around $200 to de-bug their computers. One had a nasty virus while the other had a trojan horse that took over his computer.
