New Apple Music app

With the arrival of Catalina it appears that my whole library is now copied 'to the cloud', the app is cloud-based etc. If this is true [please correct me, I'm just guessing] why can I not access those tunes using wi-fi on my iPhone to play to my Bluetooth adapter on my upstairs stereo?
I assume if I had Apple Music streaming service this wouldn't be an issue!

This is not true. The app is still a "regular" app and is not cloud based. Your library still remains on your Mac and is not uploaded to the cloud (excluding whatever backup service you may use). To get the functionality you're looking for, you either need to subscribe to Apple Music or iTunes Match ($27.99/year).

Thanks, Niel.

With a massive library [approx. 60K songs] and me at 73, it will be a cold day in hell before I pay for any streaming service. If Bluetooth were only a bit stronger.........!

If you get a Chromecast (or Airplay - hard to find now) adapter for your stereo receiver then you can use an app like https://www.stratospherix.com/products/musicstreamer/ on your iPhone to stream your local music collection.

Edit: Should work with Bluetooth as well (I've only used Airplay)

Neil, you are a lifesaver [well maybe not a life, but...] That app works wonderfully! Xmas came late for me.

Thanks again.

You're very welcome! Had to go through a few apps over the years before I came across that one.
