Will I get a signal in Georgetown, On ?

I have a 9200 and would like to get hd ota if possible ( avoid simsubs on certain events ). I live in Georgetown, Ontario on the north side of the street
in a bungalow. The houses on the south side are all 2 storey. Will I get a signal from Buffalo with a roof mounted antenna? I don't think putting up a tower would be worth it but I would be willing to spend a couple hundred
on gear. Thanks.

You're just North of Milton and Southeast of me in Mississauga, so a good outdoor antenna ontop of your home should work very well. I get all the Buffalo Digital's like FOX, CBS, ABC, PBS, very well all the time. NBC is ok but sometimes a problem.

Streetsville Area

Britannia and Creditview

ATI HDTV Wonder with junky RCA 'tube' antenna in attic (split among 2 analog TV sets, 1 analog capture card and both inputs of the ATI HDTV card). Antenna probably could be aimed better, but isn't terribly directional.

Analog TV has quite a bit of multipath and other than CTV and Global is pretty staticy.

Digital stations:
5-1 - CBLT
25-1 - CBLFT
40-1 - CTV
43-1,2,3 - WNED
66-1 - Sun TV

If I remove the splitters I can sometimes get 23-1,2,3 WIVB/WNLO as well.

No reception for CFTO 40-1 in North Brampton - PSIP?

I live in north Brampton and receive most of the normal HDTV signals using my cm4228 with preamp but I don't get CFTO. I have a fixed tripod mount that I aimed to receive Buffalo and Toronto but this was prior to CFTO coming online.

I get all the Buffalo signals except WB49 (34-1) and two Toronto stations 66-1 and 53-1. I don't understand why CFTO won't come in considering it's a stronger signal than SUN-TV(66-1) and they both broadcast from the same place. I have received it briefly during rain storms which makes me think that it's either interference from a Buffalo station or I was picking up the reflected signal from the rain. When I do receive it, it's pretty weak and fluctuates.

I may try to re-aim my antenna in the spring just in case the 30 degree null of the cm4228 is somehow the problem. I have several atsc tuners so I fairly confident it's not a PSIP problem.

Macros17 are you using a separate atsc tuner or a computer card. Cfto seems to still have problems with some computer software.

My guess on you not being able to receive Sun or City is that you might have to move your antenna slightly more east. Sorry to say if you have to move your antenna to receive these two weaker channels, it most likely will affect the reception of Fox and stations from Grand Island.

Take a permament black marker and mark the position of the pole incase you need to repoint it back.

Tune to Fox and watch the signal meter as soon as it the signal starts to drop off, stop and rescan and see if you can get Sun or City.

If you still cant get Sun or City move the antenna till Fox drops off more and then rescan.

If this works then the angle of coverage from the 4228 is not wide enough.

Good luck.

Cool Ok so here are some of my results in Mississauga

I have recently purchase a CM 4228 antenna. In my area of Mississauga I am not allowed to put up a large mast/antenna combo. I mounted my antenna on a 10' fence post and strapped it to my deck. ( I should not of tried to mount this parasail like structure in the midst of a wind storm.) Of course this took longer than I expected (doing this by myself) (I only managed to drop the whole thing only once). After a bit of tweaking and using my 6100 to scan available digital channnels I was able to get about 11. I am running the signal down the cable that feed my dish (exvu) via a diplexer setup (sending recieving), my question is if I use an IN LINE AMPLIFIER of a PRE AMP, will this affect my sat signal when sharing the same cable?

Hi Angelfish, you will be able to use a preamp with diplexers but please see the thread about Signal Gear because there is important info in there from HDTV101, me, and others on how to make it work safely:

When you get a chance let us know your channel/signal quality experiences here in this thread too. Did your CM4228 get bent when in fell? I've been through that

No just the knot on my head where it hit me. lol damn wind. Alas there was no damage cosmetic or otherwise to the CM 4228. As for the diplexer issue I will try to find the thread you refered me to.

Results: Brampton (NE) (Torbram & North Park)

Hi All,

I'm surprised by my results, I'm using the cheap Terk indoor antenna that came with my OTA reciver card. I'm pointing the antenna in the direction of Buffalo out a window of a spare room on the top floor of my house. I used a signal strength measurment program to get the direction just right. It's pretty high up, but visibly I point right at the roof of the house across the street.

Here it is:

D2 (UHF33) WGRZ-HD / WGRZ-SD
D4 (UHF39) WIVB-HD / WNLO-SD
D5 (UHF20) CBLT-DT
D7 (UHF28) WKBW-HD
D23 (UHF32) WIVB-HD / WNLO-SD
D25 (UHF24) CBLFT-D
D29 (UHF14) WUTV-HD / WUTV-SD / WUTV-EN
D43 (UHF43) WNED-HD / WNED-SD / THINK-B
D53 (UHF53) CITYHD
D66 (UHF66) CKXT-DT

I can pick up CFTO-DT if I reposition the antenna. Oddly enough not by pointing it in the direction of the CN-Tower, but pointing it South-West and picking it up off the bounce off a neighbour's brick wall!

Wow! I was almost ready to buy a huge outdoor UHF antenna, but I dont' think I need one any more.

Later,
SLam

Another Zenith Silver Sensor clone does the trick, aided by some weird signal bounces. If you continue to have great reception then I'd say you've got it made. Just keep in mind the outdoor antenna option when needed, and you don't need a huge one.

Signal update

Even with some rainy weather. I only loose 1 station WGRZ (RF33/DTVch2), I'm quite surprised.

WKBW (ABC) and WIBV(CBS) have weak signals, but still enough to not have any dropouts.

Woo-hoo,
SLam

Woo-hoo slam_to - Torbram and Bovaird

Great news on your reception.
I'm a block north of you at Torbram and Bovaird.

Hopefully, I'll be able to share some results soon. There is a CM 4228 in my garage that will be going up in the near future.

40-4, that is a new one. Does anyone know what channel that one is? I guess I should re-scan my channels to see if there is anything new online.

Has anyone heard when global is going up in Toronto. I spoke with them last year and they said it will be beginning of summer 06. I hope it grabs Global and CH as they are both owned by the same company.
