Us dxers need some decent band openings for sure.My dxing down here has been relegated to scatter, which isn't too bad but nothing like a good opening.Rearranged the antennas on the tower this spring,so I'm ready. Top is a 91 element XG type wideband for 39-51.Center is a funke psp1922 highbander and the lower 4 inline are triax group A for 14-38.

Snapshot today of WFLD Chicago which comes in daily as scatter. 210 mi 228 deg.WEWS is in several times a week at 267 mi,but no good screenshot yet.

Pic of the shack.Yaesu rotor controls,2 10" tyler monitors for 2 Insignia CEBC boxes and the Digiair Pro signal analyzer.

Good DX to all from Greensburg,IN

Wow, that is one HECK of a setup you have!

That triax array must give you +20dB on rf14, that's MAMMOTH!

I took a peak at Greensburg IN on google earth and notice there's not much elevation issues until you go south to Louisville which is much lower, what is your tvfool report and what is the farthest station without tropo you get consistently.

P.S. Thanks for the post and pics, with the repack are you planning on adding a low VHF antenna?

P.P.S. Do you keep a log and if so how many transmitters have you caught?

Zank, yes the array is an absolute sledgehammer on lower UHF. The gain on each is 16-18db and the custom built combiner adds 5.6db. If the tower is raised to 65ft it gets weak stations like WKMJ 38 and WDYC-36 drop free anytime day or nite. The HDB91X 7ft higher barely gets an occasional sniff. Both antennas are preamped with KT-200 preamps and RG-11 coax.

https://rabbitears.info/search.php?r...=dBm&height=50

The station at the bottom of this list just went to 32(WICD) and the array will get a psip lock w/broken video at any time.

TV Fool

I'm planning to add a lowbander to the other tower for eskip season, but I have to run separate coax,as I've yet to find a way to combine a lowbander with the FM antenna that's on that tower now.

Log book is just under 500 DT logs.

Good DX

Wow, what a beast! If I had your setup hoosierdxer, I don't think I'd ever leave the house. That would be exceptionally fun. What is your longest tv dxing catch?

Wish I had more time to chase the morning enhancement stuff.Today is the only day I'm off work.Nashville in from the south and Flint from the north.I get to watch FN Sunday an hour early from FtWayne or Flint on Fox47 (221).

I think this is the longest 651 from Texarkana,Tx.

That's quite the extreme setup, must be super fun to play with!

rob50312 posted in the repack thread that CFTO9 Toronto is changing to RF8 on April 29. Really excited about that because it's the only channel I've picked up on RF9. Going to be hunting for CBET9 Windsor, WTOV9 Ohio, WBPH9 Philly, WUSA9 DC, etc. before CKVR10 Barrie goes to RF9 in 2020.

Good to see the tropo is starting up again for this year. I just bought a new in the box Channel Master CM 3671 off of a guy on Kijiji for $100 ;-)

I have a 45 foot tower and an AR40 rotor. I'm going to replace to DAT-75 UHF only antenna with the CM 3671 really soon. Also going to do the exact same setup as DX Guru William Hepburn has at his place in Grimsby, Ontario.

Antenna Project

He mods the antenna splitting the UHF from the VHF, passing only the UHF through an amp and the VHF un-amplified.

His testing suggested this mod improved the UHF gain and lowered the VHF noise. I've been searching for 2 years for a new CM3671.

Sounds like a great project Satellite97.

@orbot , you devious bastard, asleep at the switch yet your HD Homerun snags WMBC, oh how I wish I had kept mine!

All kidding aside it's a good morning in all directions, picking up some Columbus, Cleveland all Erie a couple Rochesters.

Nothing new and I've ritten off getting WMBC because it's just not percolating in that direction anymore. Best of luck all and keep us posted.....if you are actually up and putting some EFFORT into this.

P.S. My smart TV is a moron, talking to my remote saying "twenty six" which is blank pointing at Cleveland it repeatedly asks "Monkey sex?", those Korean IT engineers have one heck of a bunch of fetishes.

You're right, I was sleeping when the autologger picked up WMBC18 from NYC and a few others. When I got up I was getting WETM18. Letting a computer scan for you sort of feels like a different category of DXing, like "tool-assisted DXing". I did some manual scanning before I had to leave at 10am, overall I grabbed NYC, Scranton, Rochester, Elmira, Erie, Cleveland, Detroit, Wheatley. One thing the autologger missed was WPXD50 Detroit that I briefly got off the back of my antenna while trying to get that new CHEX29 from Oshawa. Hopefully we'll get another shot of tropo before the rain comes in overnight.

I think what you really meant was CHEATING!

Can you program the HD Homerun to do screen grabs? I don't recall all the features when I had it for a couple days.

Kidding aside, the tropo maps don't look promising for the next week, I was really hoping this spring was going to be a scorcher but so far it's been a dud.

Well I do admit it is really nice not having to manually scan at 6am! For the screen grabs idea, I actually have my autologger scans saved to text files just to be absolutely sure what I'm picking up. The autologger software from Trip is a command line utility and you can export the raw scanning data from the hdhomerun (before it gets sent to rabbitears and turned into an icon on the map) to a text file with all the relevant info like real/virtual channel numbers, callsigns, sub-channels, signal strengths, and looks like this:

Code:
SCANNING: 527000000 (us-bcast:23)
LOCK: 8vsb (ss=69 snq=51 seq=100)
TSID: 0x0847
PROGRAM 3: 51.1 ION
PROGRAM 4: 51.2 qubo
PROGRAM 5: 51.3 IONLife
PROGRAM 6: 51.4 Shop
PROGRAM 7: 51.5 QVC
PROGRAM 8: 51.6 HSN
