finally got CBC and WVNY (ABC)

to west islanders, Pointe-Claire:

Yesterday, to my amazement, I was able to intermittenly pick up digital CBMT (20.1) and WVNY (13.1) using my DYI 4 bay bow-tie reflectored antenna. The antenna had to be placed some 25 ft high. What's more is that I am surrounded by 4 story apartments and of course completely in Mount-Royal's shadow (near Sources and Highway 20) for CBMT! Even stranger is I cannot get CBFT (19.1) at all, which is beside CBMT and stronger powered!

Also, I lost TQS which I was previously getting with my reflectorless smaller DYI bow-tie version, and is closer to LOS than CBMT!

My bow-tie version are pictured in the "Antenna Research & Development" forum, under the "Bow-tie help" thread.

Any comments.

Thanks.

Very interesting! I'll have to try to re-scan my channels tonight and see what I get. This is with a pure UHF antenna? I have a Channel Master 4228 8-bay bowtie antenna.

HTPC: ATSC, BluRay, HD-DVD
AVR: Yamaha RX-V1800, SPKRS: JBL S310II, JBL S-CenterII, JBL S36II, 2x HSU VTF-3 MK2

With many of the U.S. stations down for the digital HD switch over, now is not the best time to be rescanning and mucking with your antenna direction to try and get Montreal stations Just saying

Yes, A UHF home-made 4 bay - with help from the likes of mclapp - go and take a look at it...

I am hoping with elevation and pre-amp I will lock on...I also have to improve the reflector to target these channels.

yuprules:

you are right, I discovered that when I could not get a glimpse of CBS yesterday!

Usualy I have some signal and sometime I get a lock on WNPI, Maybe we will really be able to lock on it when they will raise their ERP.

It's in the Attic so about 35 feets.
When? Most likely after June 12.

That's just a guess -- very few of the North Country and Northern New England maximization applications before the FCC have been approved yet, except for WWNY 7 in Watertown.

Hoping for more!

Now that I have raised my DYI B4B I hope to get additional channels...

Just to update my digital reception:

1. get CBMT at no higher than 22 ft, with constant drop outs
2. lost TQS which I used to get no problem - are they gone!
3. get TQ (CIVM) no problem
4. get WVNY, WPTZ,WCAX, WETK, WFFF, WCFE, no problem
5. got WNPI at 33 ft, one night, lost it the next

does anyone know what other digital or soon to be digital channels I may have a slight chance of getting, say from the Ottawa, Hawksbury, Cornwall, and Saranac or other NY state areas...

It seemed I was very close to locking onto 25.1 (CBOT)...

I also heard about WCWF, anyone get this one...

thanks, nice to hope!

WCWF will be hard to get with their present permit. I never say never but good luck.

Malone, Massena, Plattsburgh and Burlington are not even if the viewing area

Check out the 3rd page of this document:

wow, not much hope there...

I might get other ones at my country place across the river from cornwall...

I do like the digital picture quality, but still seems to be hit and miss with the channels, also the choice is no where near cable yet or ever. oh well, can't complain too much, since it is free!
