Chomedey reception results.

Hello everyone,

I just wanted to state that I have the same reception results as most of the other people in Laval. I am near the 440 and Curé Labelle.

I can pull in relatively easily WCAX-DT, WPTZ-DT, VPT-DT but I also cannot get WFFF-DT yet. Signal strength normally range between 60-80% when the antenna is pointed towards Mansfield. I can usually get CBFT-DT, CBMT-DT and WCFE-DT as well without having to rotate the antenna.

I'm currently just using an amplified indoor antenna looking towards Mount Mansfield through a window on the second floor. The signal then goes through my house wiring to my tv and a computer.

The AVS forums discussion mentioned that WFFF-DT is still on a temporary antenna I believe, so hopefully, reception will eventually get easier. I might have been able to only see a 30-40% signal at best.

As far as WVNY-DT goes, it seems I'll have to at least try a proper VHF antenna in the attic before having any chance of getting the signal.

Yeah. I'm pretty sure WFFF is still on a temporary antenna, as it is now too cold and frozen up there to do anything else until the spring.

As for WVNY, I'm having trouble receiving it with outdoor VHF antennas on the south shore, so I don't think you'll be able to see anything up in Laval.

Is your indoor antenna UHF/VHF? Would be fun to test your antenna in the Attic (Has high has you can) and compare with the result you had at the second floor.(If you have time...).

My guess is that you will see a big improvement.

My antenna is this one.

It only has a simple dipole for VHF. In its current setup, I can barely see an image and sound on the analog channel 5, so I doubdt it'll be up to the task.

On the other hand, UHF reception is decent.

I'm planning on installing a better antenna permanently in the attic, but the idea of looking how much better the reception there for WFFF-DT is a good idea. If I ever do it, I'll let you know what my results are.

Well, since KRO is able to receive it pretty well using a home made antenna in the attic, I'm hoping I can duplicate his results.

Being in St-Eustache, he should be slightly farther (5-10Km?) and to the West from Mount Mansfield than I am.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed until I give it a try...

keeneye, that link goes to a page that requires login - can you give us the name/model number of antenna instead?

Oops... Sorry... The link works fine for me.

Go to www.addison-electronique.com, and then use their search engine to look for "TA-4". You should get it. The item number is 40028.

I did give that a try last week end, and it did not really change anything on the digital Mount Mansfield channels. Still can't get WFFF-DT

WCFE-DT and american analog channels had clearly better reception though.

Climbing in the attic probably raised the antenna by about 8-10 feet. I only tried a single location, and roughly aimed the antenna. I did not take the time to venture in every spot and aim for the best reception in various locations.

Kro, I saw in another thread that you've ordered a Channel Master 4221:

Have you installed it yet? How good of a reception do you get with this antenna at your location? How strong is WFFF-DT?

Are you able to receive all digital stations from Montreal, Mansfield and Lyon mountain without rotating the antenna?

Thanks!

My New Antennas Are Installed Now

I install my new Channel Master 4221 and a VHF antenna (Delhi ZIP-8) in my attic. The antenna are about 38' from the groud and nothing is blocking my view and elevation (Google eart) is 175'. My tuner is an LG Fifth Generation. The antennas are join using a UFH/VHF combiner splitter (Is there a better way?).

Result:
DT:
2.1 (SRC) 95%-100%
3.1 (CBS) 95 %-100%
5.1 (NBC) 95%-100%
6.1 (CBC) 75%-80%
22.1 (ABC) 70%
33.1 (PBS) 100%
44.1 (FOX) 75%-80%
57.1 (PBS) 80%

Analog:
2, 6, 12 (10/10)
5 (5/10)
7 (7/10)
8 (7/10)

17, 22, 29, 35, 46, 62 (10/10)
24, 27, 30 (6/10)
44 ?? Co-Channel!??
52 (2/10)

Ok analog is usefull for me for the other TV's and for recording, the only glitch is I get a Co-channel on 44 (Other wise I think it would have a 10/10). I tried to find from where (Another 44 analog channel) but I did not find anything. Any idea?

Question: I'm not sure what you mean by "co-channel". When you do a channel scan you get 44.1 in digital (FOX) but you also get an analogue station on 44, or is it a digital sub-channel like 44.2?

44.1 in digital (FOX) is ok no problem it's 44 analog on which I see another channel at the same time (Look more like ghost of another channel).

You maybe right it look like Adjacent Channel Interference
see fig 11-4 and 11.5 (http://www.pctinternational.com/chan...stallation.pdf) i'm experiencing both at the same time .

I was not thinking about that because 46 is so low power that it's more difficult to receive than 22 analog.

Are you using a PreAmp to get those results in your attic? I recall you mentioning a CM7777 from Sensuz a while back...
