Death Of MusiquePlus (rebrand to ELLE Fictions)

Always one of my favourite channels in the late 80's through to the early 00's...

For Anglos, anytime you felt like music, and MuchMusic was airing garbage (like Much West or Life on Venus Ave), MusiquePlus always was the go to for another music video.

@Inglewood I moved your thread to this forum.

According the article the channel will be rebranded.

Groupe V Média, the Montreal-based TV company which owns the network, announced on Wednesday that MusiquePlus would be closing its doors in the fall, to be replaced by a new channel — still not named — that will focus on fiction programming targeted at a female audience.

I guess it's just been a matter of time - with YouTube and all the PULL technologies that enable people of all ages to selectively watch just what they want. But I am old enough to remember how much I preferred the PUSH technology that was Much Music, MTV and MusiquePlus. Amazingly, I put on Stingray Retro as often as I look to YouTube. It's just easier, and I learn and hear things I never would have pulled. Replaced by a fiction channel catering to women. Sad

For some viewers (specially in Quebec), MusiquePlus pretty much died when they cancel M.Net, a Tech and Video Games show, and for many, it was the only interesting show on MusiquePlus. But I do remember when I was early teen that they actually have music videos, the 90s was the best...

I'm intrigue to see what show will be airing on the channel.

Does the channel will stay in French or become a English channel? I'm fully bilingual, so I'm ok with both language.

It'll still be French. V Media doesn't have any English channels, IIRC.

To me in the end, MP was nothing more than background noise. But in the days of Paul Sarrazin, that was a VJ that had passion. Sonia Benezra would be the second. Other than that, the others were boring as hell.

Home Theatre: Yamaha HTR-6190, Klipsch Speakers, SANYO PLV-Z4, TOSHIBA HDDVD, LG BD555C, Cerwin Vega HTS12 Sub, VIP2300, XBox 360, HTPC.

Yup Sonia was one of the best, I remember when they first started up, we got the channel in the clear via ku band on anik e2, the saturday night concerts from the spectrum, well such great music. Claude was another fab announcer. cheers to musique plus for giving a different voice to the Canadian music scene. rest in peace

As someone English Speaking from Ontario, I actually watched Musique Plus once in a while. I enjoyed Much Music (now simply called Much) but wanted an alternative channel that showed not just music videos but related shows. Yes I do not mind watching french language shows either even though I'm not french. I even drove by their head office / studio when I was in downtown montreal once. Rip MP
