What happened to Vintage TV?

Seems that their regular programming has disappeared. No social media presence since August.

Sounds like something may have happened when the parent company of the UK channel signed a deal with Sky in August. Given that the station aired content licensed from the UK channel, I'm guessing Sky didn't want to license it anymore.

Here's what I posted in the Shaw Cable section a few weeks ago based on what I saw at a friend's place and some research I did.

My guess is that this is being provided by the Canadian owners of the channel while they work on their next move. Vintage TV in the UK owned 33% of the channel and is insolvent. They provided a majority of the content. It looks like the Canadian channel just shut down and will start fresh. Vintage UK will probably sell its investment in Vintage Canada to a third party and try to salvage whatever they can, which probably isn't much, since the UK administrator described the investment as "non-performing."

Looking at their Facebook page, it seems the channel has been in purgatory since late September, with technical issues cropping up earlier in the month.

Kind of surprising to see it die so quickly. It crossed the 200k subscriber threshold relatively quickly given this market place.

Vintage was included in the basic packages on Shaw - I don't know about Rogers. They have about 4 million subs combined, so reaching 200,000 wasn't hard once they got carriage.

Vintage Canada would probably still be operating if Vintage UK hadn't shut down. I don't know what the Canadian channel's business model was, if they were charging subscription fees, or just trying to build an audience and rely on advertising in the future.

Vintage was on Rogers as well. It was added near the end of the English channel lineup and I only noticed it by accident. It was next to another channel called A-side. Both seemed to show up without any fanfare earlier this year. Both channels are still on air but programming has changed dramatically since launch.

Ya I noticed programming changes on VintageTV as well. If programming isnt gonna be better they should either shutdown channel or sell to some other company. If they do sell hopefully Corus picks it up. I would love to see a YTV, Disney or Nick retro channel appear. Corus has alot of great retro shows in their library and would be nice to see the 90's and early 2000s shows we grew up with when we were kids.

^^^

I agree with the retro channels, I've seen many people in the past asking for a YTV retro channel, Nick Canada have shows that I've been on YTV many years ago, but Nick need to get new retro shows to air, they've been airing the same shows for years, the schedule haven't change much in the last 2 years.

And for Disney, this is the one I want the most has a retro channel (ex: shows that was on Family before Disney Canada was launch). I'm wondering with the launch of Disney+ next year, how far in there library that Disney+ will make available to watch on there online streaming service.

Vintage Tv doesn't really have any programming at all; it's a series of repeating infomercials. Too bad, it had some good stuff.

On Shaw Direct the channel now shows a still Shaw generated graphic stating: "This broadcaster is currently experiencing technical difficulties. Please stand by. "

On Rogers, the name has been changed to M in the guide. Every program is listed a "Documentary" with no description. The programming seems to consist of infomercials and commercials. Vintage no longer appears to exist.

I made direct contact with Sessions X to ask if they are involved with the current programming on Vintage TV, or if they know why the TV station went offline. The Vintage TV facebook page doesn't seem much of help to people as it went silent in the autumn.

Here was there response:

Hey Dale, Vintage is being rebranded as Channel M and will be a new channel. It is run by the same people who ran Vintage so it will be very similar to before but with a new twist.

On Rogers, there is a message saying that the channel is no longer available.

I think its becoming some sort of Movies channels with Music related Movies, hence the M in the new branding. I guess they haven't released the programming as of yet.
