Yup I chatted with a rep (bell satellite )and they told me it was the 21st, well not changed yet. Will see how the day goes, do not really expect them to change it on a weekend anyway.

Whoever said the 21st probably meant the week of the 21st. I can't see launching a major change like this on a Sunday. They would do it during the week when the call centres are fully staffed.

It's actually $19.95/month. They have a promo until March 31 that works to $9.95/month for the first year if you prepay the full year in advance.

Skinny Package $9.95/mo*12 (12-Month Prepay Offer)
*Regular price $19.95/mo
Shipping fee $9.95
GST/HST: $16.82
Today's total: $146.17
Also, they aren't CRTC-compliant yet. They don't have the other channels available in small packages or pick and pay.

Well just chatted with a CSR on Aliant asking about skinny cable. I guess it will come out on exactly March 1st as well as the listing for the channels available on the skinny list. So much for the 2 weeks in advance the CRTC had asked. BDU's are sooooo afraid of the CRTC.. Pffft!

Home Theatre: Yamaha HTR-6190, Klipsch Speakers, SANYO PLV-Z4, TOSHIBA HDDVD, LG BD555C, Cerwin Vega HTS12 Sub, VIP2300, XBox 360, HTPC.

As I understand it, the 2 weeks advance notice was a verbal unofficial afterthought by the CRTC Chairman. It really had no teeth.

It's funny because I don't see the Skinny Package as being much of a step forward (although there is probably a very small minority that will avail themselves of it). The really important change is going to come when they have to make everything else pick-and-pay at the end of the year. That's when I will be making my change as there only about 3 or 4 channels beyond 'Skinny Basic' that I'm interested in.

I'm not sure about BTV but those who have Bell Fibe check your last bil statement, if you see certain channels(vary)will be dropped from the basic service but added to timeshifting. Someone had a link to those changes but I forgot who or the link. That may give some indication to skinny basic at leasty for Fibe TV customers.

EDIT

Here's the lonk

Thanks Ticky

@CSA60 : I agree with you. The CRTC should have been more detailed in their original order. It's a sign of the incompetence at the CRTC that they didn't include specifics of how Skinny Basic had to be promoted (advertising, emailing all users, updating website etc.). The way they've done it so far has just left the loopholes there for the BDUs to slip through.

@MCIBUS : I just got my monthly BTV bill this afternoon. There is not a mention of any upcoming changes.

The cheapest I've seen so far is Zazeen Tv. It's 9.95/month equipment included, and the skinny basic can be viewed on multiple devices, ie PC, Laptop, Tablet and their Tv Box, and only with skinny basic you don't require their internet service to get it, meaning you can have Rogers Internet, and Zazeen Skinny Basic as an example.

@thenewdc That Zazeen price is a one month promo. If you use their Skinny Basic on another network you can't get any other channels and your TV viewing will count as usage against your internet plan.

That is about to change soon. And, they do offer some but not many, other channels that you can add on to the skinny basic.

Isn't the Zazeen price 9.95 a month if you prepay for a year?

I called bell since I saw the 14.95 "good" package on their site. Apparently it's my existing package, that I pay 48.95 a month for but only available for new subscribers at that rate for a few months. Rep also told me my $5 per month discount just expired and there was nothing he could offer me now. He said Bell would be sending out notifications to customers when the skinny basic is available. That would be extremely good of them

I read the Zazeen website the same way you did.

Only thing is, I thought the CRTC mandated that all IPTV services had to be paired with the same company's internet service. Why would that change for skinny basic? Where was the CRTC announcement?

You could still run skinny basic 24/7 and have as big an internet usage as if on the top tier TV plan. Seems totally illogical. But it wouldn't be the first time the CRTC were illogical.
