Teletoon isn't rebranding at all. Retro is being completely shutdown.

Quote:
After a regular business review, we decided to make some strategic changes to our channel lineup, including the discontinuation of TELETOON RETRO. We believe these changes are the most effective way to service our audiences. Corus remains committed to providing high quality, award winning programming for Canadian kids and their families.
AKA, once pick-and-pay comes in, we realized that no one will be wanting to pay for a bunch of different cartoon networks so we are consolidating them.

Telus had Teletoon Retro in their basic tier, and they have very few specialty channels in theirs, so I assume the wholesale rate on it must've been very little. Still, as you said, in a pick and pay environment, I doubt it's a channel that most would pick, so it makes sense to consolidate.

I had a nice chat with Shaw Direct today. They said they have no idea this point either if Corus is going to make Disney Channel Canada a rebrand of Teletoon Retro or not. They said they might make a new channel for it.

What a confusing mess. According to cartt.ca today Teletoon Retro is actually being replaced by Cartoon Network. Does that mean Cartoon Network is being rebranded? I don't understand why they have to overcomplicate things so much. I guess we'll find out soon enough.

That scenario is interesting, as Rogers does not have Cartoon Network, which means it's finally coming to those subscribers. So if that is the plan, and Retro shows get unloaded onto Teletoon and Teletoon moves some stuff to CN....yeah, Excedrin headache #285 just kicked in.

I wonder if everything will just be announced the day before or the day of as in what will happen with all the related channels. Providers probably already know all the details and may have or will have everything ready in the background in relation to packaging & channel placement but they are not permitted to release anything yet.

Just my 2 cents.

Cogeco - Mix 40 with TiVo T6 DVR & 2 TiVo Minis, UltraFibre 360; Rogers - LG G7 ThinQ; Koodo - Wireless Home Phone

Well, I am going to say that the providers for Disney Channel will be Shaw and Rogers due to getting shows on Shomi and maybe Bell to get some on Crave TV. However, I am not too positive, time will tell us, I suppose.

In my opinion, I think that if the rumours are true and Cartoon Network does replace Teletoon Retro, this is a very smart business move by Corus. Now CN can get the distribution that it was unable to get since 2012, and with Disney Channel Canada replacing the old Cartoon Network, there will be huge demand from customers, so providers who hesitated to carry the old CN probably won't take long before they carry DC - kinda like the demand Rogers saw for ABC Spark.

That's just what I was thinking. They won't even need demand, providers would be stupid not to offer Disney. It's a win-win for both networks this way.

Cartoon Network is still not being carried by Rogers...they better pick up DC in a timely manner or I am gone. If TR becomes CN where will that leave DC....Guess I'll have to wait to find out.
