Star Choice 2009 New Channels Discussion

New Channels always generate a lot of discussion so this thread is for discussing new channels in 2009.

You're welcome to speculate and discuss new channels coming to Star Choice in 2009 but PLEASE unless it's been confirmed by an official press release, be clear about what is speculation and what is fact.

A post saying "a CSR said it was coming" is NOT official, however, it does put it in the "highly" likely category.

If its posted on the CRTC site that its been approved by the CRTC but Star Choice has not said anything, I would consider that in the "not very likely at this time" category.

Thumbs down bpm:tv

2009 and SC still does not have bpm - what gives?

Oh, yes limited satellite space and the high demand for such channels as Frame.

And it is a good thing no one would like the Score in HD either

At least they don't buckle under the pressure lol!

I've had StarChoice for over a year here in Vancouver. Does anyone know why there is so little HDTV channels for Vancouver? All I am able to get is the Eastern timezone versions. How can we "suggest" that they add these channels?

May I suggest you visit the OTA forums to meet your Vancouver HD needs in the meantime.

Or call Star Choice and discuss it with them. Even the lowest-cost package (Bronze) includes East and West HD.

They're going to park their car over there. You're going to park your car over here. Get it?

It's only East and West HD for US channels. There are no alternatives for CTV, CBC or Global - the ones with local programming.

As to OTA channels. When I lived in L.A., it was great to get all the local digital channels that way - the signals had enough power. But in Vancouver, this not the case and was why I had to go with Starchoice in the first place. They led me to believe the new channels would be added pretty quickly. I guess I was duped.

It's been called Viva since November 3rd of last year. Not exactly a new channel for 2009.

I wish Star Choice would communicate more widely their promotions without viewing their promotional channels. Even a mail message on screen would suffice.

Just realized they had free movies all month ending Feb 28 and today its Feb 27.

it seems every time i go to a service call i will find the customer hasn't read those mail messages, doesn't even know what the envelope symbol on the front of the receiver means, and i'll show him how to read and delete messages that are by now several years old. i haven't seen any of those messages lately, i think they realize that no-one reads them or considers them spam.

I doubt its every time there are always a few people that fail to see or use features like this but how many VCRs flash 12:00 if they dont want to use a feature that is their loss. on the other hand I think that most people would read the message if *C would use it. my previous provider would use the messaging to give notice of free previews and I liked that. and also wish *C would use the feature as well so long as it was not over used. The only thing and I cant remember what thread it was in but I recall that there was a problem with the 530 (what a surprise) that the messages would interfere with recorded programs.
