Newbie Question Install

Just moving over from Bell to Star Choice and have a few question on set up procedures.

My system will be 2 -30 inch Winegard Dishes, 2 HD 505 receivers, 1 - 2 x2 Star Choice Multi Switch and 2 Star Choice LNB's.

My 1st question is that when aligning/aiming the dish with 107, do you bypass the switch all together or is the switch necceaasry for proper pointing and signal strength.

What is the proper channel to use as depending on where you read there are 2 channels that folks say to use, same for 111, what is the best channel??

The the same question for 111, do you by pass the switch for pointing?

Bell receivers get real confused when trying to use a switch for set up but I am not falmilar with Star so please excuse if these questions are stupid.

Any other input would be helpful to make this install go easy and painless would be welcomed.

The stock SC dish is made to be pointed at 111, but tuned with 107.3. It is kind of assumed the 111 tuning will be good.

With two dishes, you will have to research what channels are on what frequencies and satellite, use manual tuning to get there, and aim the dish.

aiming 2 separate dishes

bypass the switch first. if you are using your receiver to verify which satellite you are aimed on when you are using 2 separate dishes you would tune your receiver to channel 507 for the f1 satellite. unless they've moved this channel to another transponder it should guarantee you are reading the signal of the f1 sat on screen. note you may have to start off with channel 299 which is about the only channel in the factory channel map, then after finding the signal and letting it sit for a few minutes to download the channel map, tune in channel 507. if the signal is lost as soon as you changed channels you were probably on the wrong satellite, try going 4 degrees east.
if you have a new receiver, it probably doesn't have a channel map for the f2 satellite yet so you have to get it activated first.
you mentioned that you had the 2x2 switch but i don't know if you have stacked lnbs that are usually connected to this switch. anyway you would phone for activation and have your system activated for a double stacked lnb. once that's done check to see if channel 300 still gives you a signal. if you've got the green light then tune in channel 704 and hook up the cable from the receiver to the second dish and procede to aim for the f2 satellite.once you've got that one aimed it would connect to the input of the switch that is labelled B or 22khz and the f1 dish will connect to the input labelled A or 0khz.
if your lnb's were not stacked type you will have to get a 4 in 4 out or 4 in 8 out multiswitch and call back in to get them to change the v-code to the quad type of dish. note even though it's not a quad dish you have, they would still treat it as one for everything to work properly.
for all the trouble and extra cost of switches though you might be better off to just buy a quad dish. or better yet call starchoice to book a free install, assuming you're not in a self install area.
