Star Choice Special Pricing?

Hello,

I have Shaw Analogue Cable and I am considering getting Star Choice, it seems the cheapest way of getting HD channels, both in Box price and in Monthly fees. I was thinking of waiting until there is a special promotion, but I wasn't sure if Star Choice ever does hardware discounts, free months etc. Can anyone tell me if they do promotions, or if they always offer the hardware/packages at the same price?

Also, a general question. For those that have experienced Shaw Digital/HD and Star Choice, which has better picture/sound quality for either SD or HD, Shaw or *C?

Thanks!

I can't comment on packages, but having both the DCT6412 PIII and a DSR530, I think the *C PQ is much better.
And since *C is ALL digital, it's better than Shaw's analog's that are dark and dull.
At least in Calgary anyways.

Can't speak too much on Shaw's packages/pricing as its been a while since I was last a customer but I'd have to agree with ARR on the *C picture quality being better then Shaw especially regarding the Analog channels (Calgary also).

As far as packaging and pricing goes for new customers you will always receive some kind of programming discount (Currently $50) which if your on a middle of the road programming package would be a free month of service and a $50 PPV credit (10 regular PPV movies) generally *C will offer the monetary discount instead of "free months" but it acomplishes the same thing

As far as the hardware goes that is always an up front cost with *C and they do not offer any sort of rentals on the hardware at all with the 207/317 models for SD being $79/$99 respectively and the 505's going for $199 the hardware has come down in price a few bucks from this time last year. The only major hardware discount I'm aware of was the 530 Xmas promo but you were still required to pay full price up front for the receiver and then were given a programming credit towards monthly charges

Waiting for promotions can be a double edged sword you may end up holding out and getting that killer deal or you may end up missing out on months of programming waiting for an offer that never materializes. If you have any other questions about either service there is a ton of knowledgable people here who I'm sure are more then happy to provide whatever information we can.
