Recording red light & hiding channels

I am new to Star Choice and was wondering:

1) Is there is anyway for the red recording light to dissapear. It showed up as soon as I entered a timer, but there is no need for me to be reminded that timers have been entered 24/7.

2) Is there anyway to hide channels. I know you can lock channels but I would like to hide the channels I do not subscribe to. It is a pain when you are just channeling up and down and you get the "ATTENTION: you are not subscribed screen". I know you can have favorites, but this only appears to work when using the guide.

Gary E -

maybe there are rules against videos, i tried to post the youtube links. i'll try again.

the problem is when the video starts to play back it's all distorted. I'm certain this isn't normal.

Well a picture is a thousand words

Have you called SC to complain. There definitely looks to be something wrong with your 530. Tell them to take look for themselves. You should get a free replacement.

That is definitely not normal behaviour. Phone *C and have them send you a new unit.

There are bunch of 530's listed on eBay by a liquidator with the following description:

Quote:
- we do not have the proper equipment to test this item
- Hard Drive spins but the receiver wont power on
- no further testing was done
- hard drive is included
Does anyone want to offer a prognosis on its repairability?

I have never touched the 530 - when I went HD a friend of mine who works for Starchoice told me the 530 was just plain garbage and to stay away.

My parents want a PVR but I can't stomach paying much of anything for a 530 for them.

dont buy a refurb online, only from SC, they will give you a warranty if you have multi receivers or pay the extra $$.

if I missed it - what exactly is the point of failure in the 530?

and yeah, my buddy at Starchoice absolutely HATES the 530, she figures the mere existance of the 530 has taken a decade off her life.

But, think of all the happy customers who have gained 10 years of their life back, 30 seconds at at time adding up to about 10-15 minutes of every hour of TV they watch!
